Guys,

I just wanted to say hi. I recently upgraded from a fisher f2 to Xterra 705 and wow what a difference. I have read the ebook like 10 times lol and the manual. I wanted to know what other tips and tricks I can use to get the most out of my machine. I live in North West Indiana and hunt old homesteads and farms and parks. So far I have been out 2 times with it and have had great results. I pulled 1 silver dime and a hem weight and a bunch of clad. I used the auto ground balance then take it down 2 notches then I auto noise cancel and I have not played with the threshold but its what ever it is in the AM mode.

any tips out there that I didn't read about?

Congrats! You got a great machine with that 705. I have the 505 and am very happy with it. Be sure to go to the ML website and download Digger's free e-book, 'Understanding your Xterra'.Keep the swing speed fairly slow (2-3 seconds per swing) and you will be amazed at just how much metal is under the coil. I leave mine in all metal, 99 tones, but sometimes switch to my pattern 2, which only notches out the -9. This way you aren't gonna miss much! Different targets will be categorized into on of the 28 different tones, so you can hear the 'good' & 'bad' targets and help to decide which targets you wish to dig. It's a great machine once you get a feel for it. HH, Scott

Greetings and welcome....use it for awhile, then reread the book,it will help in using and understanding it... lots of great help available from other forum members here. GL

Welcome!

Welcome to the X-TERRA Forum. Glad to hear you've read the eBook. Hope you enjoyed it and learned something from it. Sounds like you're doing well with your X-705 so far. As far as other "tips and tricks"....... You indicate that you are already offsetting the ground phase by 2 clicks. Hopefully you are setting a more positive GB? You can be assured of using the optimum ground phase by implementing Tracking. Then you can add in that offset so it stays that way throughout your hunt. A great feature in the 705. (Tracking GB offset) Another tip would be to set your Threshold so it is at a level that is just barely audible. My experience is that the factory preset is a bit too high. Other than that, the best advice I can give you is to learn something every time you hunt. Then apply what you've learned to the next site. Swing that coil every chance you get, and pretty soon you feel like an "old pro" with your 705. HH Randy

Welcome to the 705 forum. I believe Digger told me once to first set the noise cancel then the ground balance. nNot sure if this matters at all. Digger can enlighten us on that but it makes sense to first get to a quieter channel, then adjust ground balance. I know with the GPX 4000 doing a noise cancel is the very first thing you do to get the detector to a quiet setting. Less interferance. Good idea is to reground balance every time you make changes to your settings.

Yep, that is the same way I view it.... get rid of the interference "in the air" before taking on the minerals in the ground. JMHO HH Randy
