New Alpha on the way!

Hi Everybody!
Well, I decided to put my Tesoro Compadre up for sale and purchase a new Alpha 2000. I have a Vaquero as well, so I figured why not have a VID/multi-tone machine to compliment the beep and dig Tesoro. I hope I made a wise choice. I was trying to decide between the Alpha and F2. I used to own an F2 and thought I would try something different this time. I really like the look of all the Teknetics. Any input or reviews/observations on the Alpha 2000 would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Helloooo? Is the Alpha 2000 really that unpopular? I guess I will have to post my own impressions here after trying it out!

Well done on buying your new Alpha,i have too admit i dont think i have ever seen one over here in the UK so cannot comment really on what they are like.Good luck with your new detector and keep us posted with your review.

Congrats on your new Alpha!! Let us know your thoughts about it after you've had a chance to use it. Happy hunting.

Well, I know its a cousin or little brother to my Omega and for good day in day out coin hunting, it is tough to beat. It id's great and does so down to good depth. Enjoy....and post up your goodies. You will be making plenty. HH jim tn

Just curious why you didn't just get the Delta 4000, about $100 more,
unless it's a money issue. AFter I retired I found I had to watch every
penny. Guess I'll have to go back to work.

I have a Tesoro Vaquero ($460) that works great for me, I just didn't need 2 beep and dig machines. I wanted a simple multi tone machine. I rarely dig by numbers and I don't really need the pinpoint or all metal modes of the Delta. Oh, and until I find that gold/diamond ring for her, I didn't feel like trying to justify the extra pennies to the wife!

I'd be interested in hearing how it all works out.
I'm intrigued about the Alpha because I have heard very little information about it compared to more popular models in the $200 price range. The few things I have read say it had very good depth and accurate target ID to a reasonable depth. Most of the videos I've seen are in French, so I guess it's much more popular in Europe than in than the US. They do make a nice selection of coils and any of the 'greek' series coils will work on the Alpha. I've seen some huge 12X13 DD coils for it, that might offer some really good depth. I will keep you all posted on how my first hunt with the Alpha works out.

The Alpha does not have VDI numbers, it has categories only.
For the money a great detector but the Delta would be my choice.

They both have a couple of things in common. They lack an All Metal search mode and/or All Metal Pinpoint function. Also, they are a quick-response with a decent recovery rate.

Now, your Vaquero is also a quick-response/fast-recovery model, but it does work a bit differently than the Compadre. I have found the Compadre's I've owned, all using the 'quieter' operating circuiry, handle dense iron nail littered sites better than most of he newer high-gain models, to include the Vaquero. If you are mainly just a "coin hunter" and search the typical urban locations for 'flash money,' the I think you might enjoy using the Alpha. Like the Compadre, the Alpha and Delta from Teknetics have a factory preset Ground Balance for "turn-on-and-go" simplicity. I can usually grab the Alpha or Delta and do a little coin hunt around town and pull a fair share of change.

Well, let's clarify the terminology and description of the Alpha's features.

VID? The term we use to describe the numeric read-out of a target's conductivity is VDI, which stands for Visual Discrimination Indicator. It is a numeric reference for targets, and can be used in harmony with the visual TID (Target ID) ta many models have.

In the case of the Teknetics Alpha, it only has a segmented TID display with 8 segments for: Iron, Foil, 5

Yes I am aware there is no numerical target indication, but the Compadre it is replacing has one knob and NO visual display. The Vaquero I currently own is in a higher class than the Delta. If I decide for some reason to replace the Vaq, I would jump up to the Gamma or Omega.

Thanks Monte, for the info! Actually, the Compadre does have an all metal search mode. An as far as the ID#s versus category segments, it's is a nonpoint to me. The Compadre has ZERO target indication and I grow tired of having to thumb the disc all the time. I'm surprised you give the Alpha to people to give them a bad time. I have not read one negative review on the machine. Many knowledgeable detectorists still use their "entry level" Compadre, F2, Ace, Tracker 4, etc.. on a regular basis. I just wanted a simple machine to compliment the Vaquero. The F2 I used to own was much quieter in the trash (overall) than the Compadre. I'm hoping the Alpha will be too. if not, I will get another F2 to replace it. Thanks again

Monte is saying he uses it to out hunt people in parks,,reread the post..

If the Alpha works for you and is fun to use that is all thar matters, I have owned and used one but for about the same $$$ I prefer the EuroTek Pro it just seems to work better in my ground.

I found a brand new used but not used for $99.87,who's on first, alpha on Craig's list right down the road from me..Took it out for the first time today to a place that have only lightly tried to hunt with my ace 250,have'nt took my t2 or cz-20 to the place and wan't as its not a good place to have a high dollar machine..Anyway the thing does great,it finds stuff in the trash, literally take shoe and kick crap out of the way,but in 15 mins found 2 wheaties where as have found nothing with the ace 250,same spots right off the bat...I am impressed, now i will spend money on a little coil to hunt in the junk..

Atom your going to really like this machine, the one i got is a new old version, push on coil connector and 1/8" headphone jack, the headphone jack is the only thing that i don't care for..Now i have been at this since 93 and my first machine was and still is a cz-20..Love it and will never part with it..I have had xlt's which to me are pathetic and other cz's and explorers and own,but this little machine is bad to the bone..for some reason its catching on across the pond but not here..anyway i ordered me a little 4" coil today as this machine works well in trash...Anyway good luck waynebo
