New and need some tips on Tools

Hi, I'm just getting my self organized and I am new to metal detecting. Other than a good detector, what are my must haves for working in the dirt? What about digging tools? I also want to go in the water, what are the accessories I need for going in the water? Thanks for your help, UPSMANPA

I can not help you for water equipment but I recommend a knee pad and a Lesche (spelling ?) digger. Google Lesche tools and check them out. They are outstanding diggers. You can buy cheaper diggers but they will not last. What do you do for ups? I am a feeder driver from Wi. I take runs were I can detect all around the state. Only 30-42 minutes a day but at least I get out every day. Good Luck

The tools you need depend on what type of targets you are looking for. I relic hunt, so I use an Army surplus harness set to carry my gear and a WWII Entrenching shovel to dig with. We dig big holes!
But if you are a coin shooter you will need other more probing and select digging tools like the Lesche mentioned above. Good Luck and welcome to a great hobby.

I keep it simple. I have a cloth carpenters pouch that have a leather tool holder. I put a Fischker garden knife with an earth magnet attached to the top of it in the holder. Then i can just pop a butcher knife and old garden trowel to the magnet. I use the knife to cut my flaps... its like cutting butter. Then just pop up the flap and there isnt much digging. For the water you need a totally different setup. Id recomment a water detector because most coils are waterproof BUT the boxes arent. Then a long handled scoop so you dont bend over..

I have a cheap treasure wise trowel. It's cheap and does just as good as them expensive lesche trowels. Also I do not believe in them big shovels some use to dig. They are messy and you cant make good plugs with them, and that is the key to respecting other peoples property, Good plugs keep land owners happy and they let you come back.
