New Coil Ordered!

Foggy

New member
Hi guys
Well after much thought and reading, I've decided on a new coil for my F5. I've just ordered a 13" Ultimate to try something a bit different, I may in the future purchase a 11"DD but I didn't really fancy it.
There isn't a huge amount of feedback on the Ultimate but. I always believe you have to try something and make up your own mind, so I will. I'll report back when it arrives and get to use it. Any comments are welcome

Don't know beans about the 13 but the 11DD is great in the boonies but in local parks it luvs bottlecaps and in NE Pa. we had a lot of beer drinkers....
Indeed let us know your opinions.....

10-4 on the 11DD and the bottle caps! Went to a local park (a really big park) and all I can say is, if those bottle caps were silver dollars, I'd be a rich man! Let us know how it works out for you Foggy! I got my replacement F5, and it makes a huge difference when everything works on it! Also buying a mint condition Tesoro Bandido II

Hi guys
It was the bottle caps thing that made me go for a different coil, I can't wait to get it and swing it, I'll update with a full report after testing!

About the only thing I can offer here is snow removal tips.

Another 3 inches of snow coming in over night! :goodnight:

HH....to those that can! lol

Hi guys
At last, my new coil arrived today, the weather is awful so I can't get out to test it!

It makes the bottom of the F5 look huge, but it's very lite. Nice easy clip on coil cover. I turned it on in doors and I just get the feeling it's not nearly as stable as the F5 standard coil! I may change that view when I get it in the field for a proper test, hopefully tomorrow afternoon.

I bought a 13 inch Ultimate for my F5 and DID get increased depth. I DID notice, that in areas where the F5 with 11 inch factory dd coil was used and there was significant EMI, that the larger 13" coil amplified the EMI but I simply lowered the threshold and all was well. I wish that I could give you a better feedback. But there was a guy looking for one and I saw a chance to sell it since I had my sites set on another detector. But here I am.....still got my F5 (11 in coil) and wish that I had kept the 13 inch coil for large fields. I have been looking for the 5 inch SEF coil for the F5/ Teknetis greek series but cannot find it anywhere.
Anyway...you did good. You will see added depth compared to the 11 inch DD. These F5's are under rated little fellers. I have went onto some yards and pulled up a few mercs and indian head cents with mine. Found several bullets and a Best Quality (with spead eagle) backmark. The front was blank. It was dated by a button guy 1810 to 1830. That was right around the founding of my town. The F5 is a nice detector. And with the Ulitmate 13" coil....is hard to beat, depth-wise. And at 7 khz.....it should, theoretically, make the silver ring out. Happy Hunting with yours and keep us posted. I love to see what people find.

Thanks for the info Kevin, I was really nervous about taking the plunge on an after market coil but couldn't resist this one. The fields I'm in at the moment are huge and take some covering, I'm going to start on an area I have done with the standard coil to see if I missed anything! I pray for a fine afternoon tomorrow

Hi guys
Well I've been out a couple of times now with my new coil, the weather has delayed my progress but I have managed a two short sessions, my settings are below:

Gain. 75
Threshold. +10
Disc. 3-5
Tone. D2

I'm very pleased to be able to run the coil on the above settings, yes there is a tiny amount of chatter but its very stable and as soon as you hit a target the chatter stops and you just get a nice clear signal.
I'm on land that has lots of iron so it's a good test for the coil, it doesn't separate targets as good as the standard coil but I suppose the larger size has something to do with that! I will go over the same ground with the standard coil to see if I missed anything.
Getting used to the size of the coil takes time and although very light, after swinging for a couple of hours my elbow was sore (but I'm no spring chicken!).
I'm still struggling with pinpointing but I guess it's just finding the sweet spot on the coil, I'm usually about 3 inches off.
The best thing about the 13" ultimate is coverage, I'm on large fields at the moment so it's perfect.
I can't really comment on the depth yet, I might have to set up a couple of targets and compare depths with the standard coil, one thing I have noticed is, with the standard coil the majority of my finds were 3-6 inches deep, very few any deeper! But with the ultimate I am detecting finds between 3-9 inches (SO FAR), this may just be coincidence as I'm on new fields, I need to go over some areas I've already done with the standard coil but the farmer has now seeded those fields so I will have to wait!
My overall feelings at the moment are indifferent, I like some things and dislike other things about the coil but its early days yet.
I have all day booked on Friday weather permitting, I'll post any finds.

I was worried about that as well, but there is a youtube video that shows how to tell a bottle cap from a quarter with the F5 and 11" DD coil. You basically scan the target VERY fast a few times. A bottle cap will jump between tones, but the quarter the tone will stay high and wont jump. I might not have described it as accurately as I should but I just googled 'F5 and bottle caps' and found the video. I'm gonna try it when I get an F5 and see for myself. The DD is supposed to be so much better in mineralized ground and deeper as well. Congrats on that new coil, it's gonna rock!
