Hello All,
Received my new Coinstrike yesterday and first of all many thanks to you on this forum who provide a great weath of information for a person considering and/or starting out with this detector.
I have reviewed most of the old post and made up a good notebook of tips to help me get off to a great start.
I do have one question for now regarding ground balance. The manual states to raise the coil approximately 6" prior to releasing the button, however, I read somewhere in the forum that greater depth will be obtained if the coil is only raised 1-2" instead of 6". For those of you who have been using the Coinstrike for a while, will you confirm how you ground balance.
Again, thank you for a very professional forum. I look forward to participating and posting some good finds in the future.

Hopefully you also have scrolled back far enough to see the links to the "Tips GUide" on the FRL web page & John's Coinstrike Homepage as well. Those are both worth printing out as well if you haven't already. That's a very good question. The ground balance procedure is quite nice on the C$ & Excel units, as compared to the old style way it was done & is still done on CZ's having to use both hands pretty much <img src="/metal/html/smile.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":)"> I wouldn't take that statement about balancing too literally, or worry that you absolutely have to be 6" high or else <img src="/metal/html/wink.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=";)"> I just hold the button & quickly raise it & release. Don't need a ruler or anything. Sometimes I'm 3" or 5" I'm not too percise. There may be a slight difference in depth, I for one have never tested this theory. But one could experiment on some deep buried targets, or just try the 1-2". But, I would guess Fisher says to get 6" off the ground just to be sure a new user is far enough away from mineralization, or metal that could throw off the balance. What's alot more important than how high you are, is being sure your over completely clean soil when ya push the pad, & also not balancing under a powerline <img src="/metal/html/shocked.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":shock"> I just push the PP pad & check the ground looking for 00. Others switch to all metal....hope that helped. Any further questions, fire away. Good luck, Bill

the heading "O.K. lets get down to it." Just in
case you want to look at it again. That's the way
I GB. About 2" up when I release the button. Get
really good depth on even the small stuff. Never
did compare it to the 6" like the manual says.
Having too good luck with it the way I run it.
Not a CS expert by any means but I will use what
works for me. Made copies of a lot of good posts
and put them in a 3-ring binder just like you. Really
cuts down on the learning curve. Best of luck to you Keith.
