NEW COMPADRE OWNER

I picked up a nice older Compadre with a 7 inch coil recently. I have read about how good the Compadre was for gold jewelry and had to give one a try.
So far I have only hunted in my yard for about 15 minutes with it but did find a 1915 buffalo nickel I had missed with my other detectors. :detecting:
I can tell already this is gonna be a fun detector......now to find the gold...............HH

Roger

muconium, the buffalo nickel I found was about 5 inches deep and near an old square nail. I suspect the nail masked the nickel with my other detectors larger coils...........HH

The Compadre loves gold jewelry and nickels.

Way to go on the buffalo nickel.

I just love finding them.

Great find Roger, the Compadre is a dandy detector.

Congrats on gettting one amazing detector. It is the one I find reaching for the most when I get time to go out detecting. It is light and easy to swing. I have found some amazing things with it, and have only had mine for less than a year. Yesterday I found a 1944 S wheat penny with it. It is hot on gold and silver jewelry and is my detector of choice when I don't want to dig deep. It does suprise me however on the depth this small wonder will reach if set right. When I have alot of time to hunt I will set it on the R or O in Iron. When I have a short amount of time to hunt the O or I in foil. That way it hits hard on nickels even on a short hunt. This machine never ceases to amaze me on the finds and fun I have detecting with it. NIce work on finding a buffalo nickel with it and one that old. I have the new machine with the 5.75" coil, but am curious about how much difference depth wise the 7" coil is. Good luck and HH

Dirtdigger, From what I have read, the 5.75 coil Compadre is supposed to get the same depth as the larger 7" coil version. Personally I would think the 7 " coil version should be a little deeper. My hunting buddy has a new 5.75 Compadre so we will do some comparison testing on buried targets
to answer the question of which one is deeper............HH

I'd like to know the answer to that one.

Even if they're both the same depth, the 5.75 coil is going to do a little better in thick trash and the 7 inch coil is going to cover the ground a little faster.

I have had & used both and I believe that there is much if any depth difference between them. I do know that if you turn up the internal sensitivity pot. to the point where it constantly chirps then back it off just a hair it is one hot little machine, so hot that you might want to consider using one of these coils ;)

HaHa, that's exactly what mine sounded like when I bought it used. I had to turn down the sensitivity so the kids could use it.

well done!

you will love the Compadre, I also have a Vaquero and sometimes it stays at home. The compadre will pull the best stuff

I turned the sensitivity down so I could use it! It's quiet as a mouse now but still hits the teeniest of targets. Since most of my targets are within the first 5" I don't need any extra depth. But STILL having to go 6" for some of those tabs.:ranting:

I also prefer mine quiet and it still picks up those bird shots

I was checked the difference in depth before and after turning the sens down. I was kinda suprised that it lost very little depth, it just ran a whole lot quieter - and I turned the sens down quite a ways.

Joe Dirt,
If you get a chance to do that test. I would appreciate it. Just a small matter of curiosity. Reddirtfisher, I wish the Compadre was still a big secret, but I think the secret is out. When I ordered mine from Kelly Co 1 year ago, they said they were out and on back order. I was dissapointed, because I wanted it right then. You know how we dectorists get when waiting on our next machine. Kelly Co gave me great customer service once again. The guy I spoke with on the phone told me he would ask one of his salesman if they had one anywhere. He came back on the line, said he had located one and it would be shipped right away. I was excited and impressed. Now if you look at people's signatures on here of machines they own you see a Compadre in their aresenal. It was my 1st Tesoro and will not be my last, but will never be sold. I also do not see used ones being sold very often either and when they do, they sell for almost the new price. The Compadre rocks. Good luck and HH.

I have owned several detectors over the past few years trying to find the right ones for me.

The Compadre was the only detector I never sold.

With the Cibola I just acquired, the only kind of detector I don't have right now is a salt beach machine, and I don't get there often enough to warrant a seperate detector.

The Compadre is a pleasure to use and it has found so many good items for me. The idea that less is more really applies to the Compadre. It has more of what it needs and less of what it doesn't.

Happy hunting to you!
