Well I just want to know how valuable a machine it is and if anyone can tell me what they sell for. I got a clue from calling Whites just a minute ago but then again I cannot imagine they would tell you that the machine they made was no longer worth a damn. Maybe they would but........Anyhow here's the info. Its a Whites Surfmaster 2 or 11 Pulse Induction or PI . Its pre 1998 with a discrimination knob and as sensitivity knob. I live in Michigan and expect to use it on freshwater beaches since we have a shortage of saltwater here in the state. I understand that these machines have no real discrimination and nails that would be eaten in 3 months in saltwater are still here a 100 years later in Michigan's fresh water. That's not a problem if this machine can reach out and find these items and jewelry of gold and silver too. Please let e know what I have . By the way its a Pre 1998 machine with yellow rods and a Amphibian 2 coil. It is running on 3 9 volt batteries. Thanks in advance for any and all opinions. Michael Oh and I have been married 3 times so you really cannot hurt me too bad by just laying a shot or two upside my head..Just throw as close to an honest shot across my bow as you feel like throwing..Thanks again MK

I have three White PI machines, including the new Dual Field, which I have not used, yet. I hunt fresh water in Washington State. If the machine you have is in good shape, you'll do all the digging you wish for. If it sounds at all good, dig it. i read a lot about how you can't use a PI in fresh water. Do it, the exercise is good for you. And the gold will come. Your machine is ten years old and you would be better off with a newer one, but use what you have to find enough to buy a newer one and learn at the same time.

White's made a "Surfmaster Amphibian II" VLF-discriminator, and a "Surfmaster PI" pulse detector. Sounds like you actually have the VLF version, which is probably the better choice for trashy fresh water. Do some target testing to determine where you want to set the disc to knock out trash and maintain a decent response to jewelry.
