New Deus Ordered.....question?

Tommie

New member
Hello to everyone. I just recently ordered a Deus from Andy and had a quick question concerning the headphone jack on the control unit. Can you just plug in a good pair of ear buds into the control unit and not use the wireless phones that come with the Deus? I will be hunting by sound mostly and would like to just stick the control unit in my pocket with the ear buds to still be detached from the detector. Any suggestions on a good pair of ear buds would be appreciated, as it looks like the choices are many and range from dirt cheap to way expensive!

Can't wait to get the Deus and give it a try. Been swinging the E-Trac for a while now and looking forward to the light weight of Deus!

Any quality ear buds will work. Just make sure they have a volume control. Hunting by sounds only is going to be very challenging. Happy Hunting.

Actually...depending on the type of detecting you will be doing...fields where you will dig everything above a certain TID or homesites, parks, schools where you need to be more discerning with your holes...you can set up the tones to basically be a 2 tone (dig or not dig over a certain TID) detector.
In the UK, I set the high tone for everything over a 29 while in 18kHz. Here in the USA I set the high tone for everything over a 39 at 12kHz.
So you really do not need to ever look at the numbers.

Theres alot of advice I could throw your way, but the most important would be to make sure you've decided your SURE your going to pocket the head unit. If so your plug type wont matter as much. But if your considering leaving the unit stem-mounted, until you see what the Deus is showing in conjunction with what your hearing, then Id highly suggest getting a set with a 90 degree plug in. If you stem mount with a straight plug, it will be in your way.
If you do get a pair with volume control, be aware that the cheap sets with the rotary style volume dial (that Ive seen) can fail easily with a little bit of dirt. The sets with the push button up/down seem to last better.
You can always get a few sets of cheapies, until you decide which style you like. Then buy a better set of that style. I ended up with a pair of auvio (from radio shack) with full ear muffs. Good luck

Ears first and confirmation on the controller is the best combination.

You will see what mean when you have used it for a while.

Some folks take a lot longer than others with their understatanding the sound intreptation.

Have fun its a whole new world that you are entering. Jerry.

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm sure I will leave the head unit mounted for a while until I get to know the detector better, just as a way to learn the VID numbers and what the machine is telling me. I will even consider an arm band style mount that could easily be looked at but still be detached from the detector. Hopefully XP will be coming out with more accessories soon that will include some better headphones.
My hearing isn't so good, so I need something with plenty of volume and quality sound.

Happy Hunting! :detecting:

Can the Auvio transmitter be plugged into the remote control unit and transmit to the Auvio headphones without interfering with the Deus wireless signals? My glasses make the Deus over the ear phones annoying, and they are also a bit large for me! The Auvio that sit on the ear are only slightly better! I prefer the full over the ear type Headsets. Thanks in advance for any input about the Auvio... GL & HH.........Pat
