New Deus user question

Just got my Deus a few days ago after much reading and video research. I'm coming from using and Ace 250 so you can imagine how different the sound/audio is for me. I look forward to learning the machine and putting the time in, however I am a bit discouraged at the moment. Just for testing sake, I buried a dime in my backyard at 9" and thought I would have no problem hearing it. I didn't hear any sound at all so I moved the dime up to 6" and thought it would be no problem. Still, it didn't see it. So then I unburied the dime, dropped it back in the hole at 6" and didn't cover it with any dirt, I was shocked when I didn't even get a peep from the detector. I was in Deus fast, but I switched the programs, ground balanced, changed frequencies, increased the sensitivity and lowered the silencer. Still not a peep from the dime with no cover at 6". I took a quick video and may link it if anyone wants to see it. Can anyone offer some advice?

From what I've read the most common mistake from Deus users is not letting the coil go all the way thru it's initialization/calibration before letting the coil "see" any metal, it'll cause all sorts of problems. On page 80 of Andy's book bottom of the page it says that you have to hold the coil waist high and allow it to initialize (10-15 seconds) then you can lower the coil to the ground, ground balance then start hunting. Sounded like this may have been you're problem, hope it helps.

I agree with ronnw69--unless you have a defective component, the obvious answer is a portion of the calibration occurred while the coil was either on the ground or in the air near metal. Turn off headphones and keep them off. Then try turning the remote off and back on while the coil is in the air at least 10ft away from cars, poles, fences, underground fences, power lines, etc. Wait until the calibration sequence (flashing LED) stops before answering yes to the audio prompt. After that, lower your coil to the ground, ground balance and try again. If that doesn't work, maybe there's something near or in that hole causing significant interference; try a different location. If that still doesn't work and there's no debris between the coil and cover, then your next action should be to call XP on Monday. If you have to send it in, send the coil, remote and headphones...don't send the shaft--if there's a problem XP will get to the bottom of it quickly. Their numbers are: (800) 446-0244 or ( 508 ) 460-6244

I watched your video again...can you hit the dime with reactivity 2 and silencer -1? You have low mineralization at that site, so you can even set your GB to 90.

I cant explain the problem you have but i know the Deus is capable of finding a Dime at a good distance , i have the 11 inch coil only and just checked it and it gets a Dime at a good 10 inches in air so maybe 8 inches in ground . I even checked other programs and my own beach program and they are no different , maybe the problem is what the others have said above or maybe there is a fault with your coil or remote to coil wireless connection ?
Check other targets too.

Also have you been playing with settings ? if so and you dont remember which then factory reset the machine and start again .

Beep silver it didn't hit it with those settings. How do you factory reset it in case I did something wrong.

You have to reinstall the software I believe. Does air testing the dime at 6 inches work? If so, there may be something at the location where your hole is....

Yes, unsaved programs return to their default when you power down. But just in case you have a corrupted software installation, it might be wise to reinstall the software to rule out that as a problem. If you have any saved custom programs, be sure to jot down the settings before reinstalling the software--because you'll lose those.

Yep, I would reinstall the software, my Deus with 9" coil will hit that 9" dime. You might try a faster sweep speed.
