New Excal 1000 Arrival

Excal1

New member
Well, I'm a newbie to this forum, although I decided to get my new Excalibur based alot on what alot of you had to say. I ordered it over two months ago from my local distributor in Pensacola FL and it finally came in today. I haven't had a chance to use it yet and although I have read the manual several times, I am not really sure where the best knob settings are to start out with. I live in Navarre FL and will be using it mostly in the Gulf and on the beach. Our beach has zilch mineralization and no black sand to mention. It is like the perfect beach, I think for detecting, except that there are so many of those Surf Pirates looking for Billy Bowlegs treasures, or coins and rings and such from those tourists. Thank God for tourists when you metal detect. Anybody with any advice on the settings and also on how to tell when you are over the target in pinpoint. Thanks for all your advice, help and encouragement.

Well, I've had mine for about a month but I think I'm zereoed in for my area. I would recommend that you do a search on this forum and the beach forum for "settings". Here's what I've concluded:

Disc at 1
Sensitivity at 11:00 - 12:00 position (turn it up until you start getting false signals then back off until it stabalizes)
Volume Maximum
Threshold barely audible
Disc mode

You've got a great machine. Good Luck!

I like Horsesoldier's settings, but just a hair below barely audible. If you hear the tone come back or get high pitch, reduce Sensitivity, Threshold or slow down. Low and slow with this unit. If you are not low and slow, you WILL miss good stuff. Dig any tone that does not null silent. Any other tone, examine from different angles and see if it sounds better. Clean low tones are usually most exciting, but may be high too, so don't pass them. You eventually will be able to make some intelligent predictions. Get a copy of cjc's latest book, specific to the Excal. Good read. May have to read it a couple of times to absorb all info. Good luck.

Thanks all for the info. That is some good advice to start with and see if it works for me. Happy Huntin. I am really looking forward to showing off my first finds when I get out especially that 5,000 dollar ring. HA>

See Ya. If I can help anyone just give a yell.
