New Exp II....small problem

Got my new Exp II, no revalations yet but it's fun to use and learn. My problem is the shaft keeps sliding out of the compression clamp where it attaches to the main body of the detector. Anyone had this problem and maybe a solution? It comes out about every 20 minutes.

You mean where it goes into the control housing? You must not be getting it all the way up in there. It goes into the housing a good couple of inches and there is little chance of it coming out when it's in right. I don't think you're pushing it all the way up in there before locking it. It's a tight fit. Actually, I just stopped typing and got my Explorer II and pulled the shaft out of the housing. I measured how much of the shaft pushes into the housing and it's 3 inches. If you measure 3 inches from the tip of the tapered end of the shaft and mark it, you should be able to tell if you have it all the way in.

The shaft is tapered and measuring the shaft from the top it goes in 2 1/8" and bottoms out. I've pushed about as hard as I feel safe and it won't go any further. I lock the clamp down and it easily pulls out.

The end of the shaft is tapered, the longer end of the taper goes on bottom. It's tight now!

I have the same problem as u do. I am pretty sure i have the right rods in the right places, but the guy i got it from said i need to stick i thin piece of metal in there to get it to stay. Its not the biggest problem as u said but it does get kind of annoying, so i think thatll work, if not, i dunno.
