New Explorer SE

Yesterday I when out to try my New Explorer SE out in a Civil War Site. I am not happy with this unit. I think it is design for Silver, gold & Coins, but not relics hunting..... This Unit has to many sounds for relic hunting.... I set the Iron Mast to all white, set to deep, put the sensitivity to 20...
Note: I put a bullet and a button 4" deep into the ground. The Explorer SE did had too many sounds to pick them up.....
This machine does not respond to relics like it does to coins, silver & gold. I was mislead by the Company and the Salesmen on this machine.
Please help me understand about the Pitch Sounds......................
Ether my machine has a defect or I am not understanding the sounds...
The Salesman did not know anything about the unit, so he could not help and the Company, Minelab only could help me on the coins, silver & gold, they never used the iron-mast or did relic hunting.
So I and letting everybody know that this machine is great for coins, silver and gold, NOT Relic hunting.....................................
I an very upset because I paid allot of money for this unit and no one knows how to use this machine correctly for relic hunting...

The Explorers are complex machines. One does not just go buy one, go to a site, turn it on and blammo civil war belt buckles instantly start popping out of the ground everywhere.

One really need to experiment, experiment, experiment with one if its your first time with a detector. I dig up relics with my old EX II and now with my SE almost every time I go out. Explorers may be better on coins but still very good relic machines. When one learns to understand what its telling you, its like cake. Go round up some relics and experiment with it and your settings. There is a VAST amount of knowledge around this forum if one is willing to look. I have had Explorers for over 2 years and I still learn something each time I go out.

Example:

Yesterday I learned that turning the sensitivity as high as it will go without falseing may or may not be the best setting.

You have to use the detector to understand it...I am guessing that you bought on advertising and not by the person knowing anything about the detectors that they sell.

We here on the forum will help you get over the hump of the detector. The Se is really not that much difference in the way the XS II reacts except speed. The Settings that you are using are pretty standard.

A few of thing I would like to know are:
1 Did you noise cancel at the site?
2 What sound are you running, Conductive/Ferrous
3 What changes have you made compared to factory settings?
4 Swing speed-From one side to the other?

Go to page 60 in the manual "Tone- Adjusting Audio Pitch" Get some relics like you would expect to find go over everything on pages 60 and 61 until you understand it. I would try the smooth response. Take your sensitivity up until it falses then back off 4 or 5. Lower the gain to 6 or lower. The factory settings are a bit hot and loud IMO. Try deep on and off. Experiment.
