new F 70 any tips

Stryker47

New member
Just upgraded from a F-2 to a F-70, played with it a little bit today any tips on the settings, seems like a lot more chatter than the F-2 . Thanks

Congrats on the upgrade! I've been gettin' me feet wet swingin' a F4 but keep thinkin' about what I might try next....seriously considerin' a F-70. F series...especially F4 and up are prone to EMI. The settin's on the F70 are very customizable and once you learn how to use the Gain and Threshold settings combined with Sensitivity you'll get it to quiet down I'm sure. My buddy hunts with a F2 and his is very quiet but my F4 with the 11"DD goes crazy sometimes. Don't be concerned about reducing sensitivity...running sensitivity at 50 doesn't mean you only seeing half as deep as you would at full Sens. You won't lose very much depth.

Good luck. Look forward to hearing more about the F70 and your future successes! :canadaflag:

Yep, don't run the sensitivity too high and make sure you do a good ground grab when you start hunting. I used to have an F2 and found the ID numbers on the F70 to be much more accurate, especially at depths over 3' to 4".

Stryker47 you now own one of the best detectors made. Ok. ok ok it is just my opinion. You will find it is a very versatile detector and it will operate in just about any area. I haven't found a place where it would not work yet. Maybe you should try running in default mode for a few weeks and dig every thing. Maybe hit the tot lots and schools with sand or wood chips. The only change I would make in default is run 2F tone. It was easier to use. I learned that after a few days. It helps in the adjustment period. I still run a lot in 2F but have been using 3H a bit more. The adjustment period takes some time, give it the time you need and you will be very surprise on how well you and the detector do.
GB when starting and GB when you move some distance. You will be surprised how much the ground conditions change. GB when detecting for some time. GB when conditions change around you. I do this and I have found some great stuff with the F70. I think my detector is running at top performance for my needs.
It takes time to get to know the F70. Take the time. I just don't care to own another detector. It is fast, light easy to set up and run for a very long time on 4 AA batteries.
Ok here are the results of hunts.
Hunt # 68 yesterday for this year
4th set of batteries this year
13 rings found this year
3 watches found this year
All kinds of jewelry found this year including a 14K white gold necklace
1301 coins found this year
Running DE mode, Sens @ 75, Tone@2F, Thres@ -3, Disc@ 10.
I sometimes run Sens@ 85 to 90 but it makes more noise and I dig a lot more itfy targets. It just depends on how I feel when out hunting. It is a hobby not a job and I really don't need any more pressure than necessary when out hunting.
Enjoy your new F70 and have fun, it is a hobby.... Thanks for reading and Happy Trails.....Z

yup as zeek said you have 1 of the best
just run it as is & learn the sounds & corresponding #
listen for solid & repeatable sounds u will get the hang of it & she will treat you well
just have fun
find a bunch

I would Like to thank everyone for the advice I know it will take awhile to get use to it just like my F-2 ( I dug a few irrigation pipes when I started LOL). I am so looking forward to it. I will keep ya all updated on how I do gettin ready to head out now for a hour or so areas are hard to find playgrounds are hit evryweek I know 2 guys that got them on a rotating schedule. I did find a place that had not been hit got 5 bucks in changes mostly quarters and a 1949 chinese coin, and a 1984 10 cent piece from the bahamas. any way thanks again Stryker47

F70 is a great machine- it can be tweaked in so many fashions. I went to the F70 from the F4- The 70 does find a lot of rings and dimes. Adjustment YES. At first the 70 seemed unruly till I learned how to use it and it definitely found more than the F4 and I was getting good stuff deep. Now I got the ltd75 and i am going through a similar adjustment. But I know the ltd is doing just great and Im liking it a lot. After the other F series machines , the adjustment to the 75 seems quicker. By the way I still have the 70 and let others use it when they go out with me and am keeping it for a backup. BOL Curt O

You need to use the search button above and research the F-70 I have been using one for 11/2 years, IF you want to find deep silver 9"-10" you will have to turn the sens up to 99 and the threshold up to +6 to+9 I NEVER detect using numbers its NOT reliable, hunt in 3h or 4
the high tone will let you know when you have silver, if you tone hunt only you want miss the silver, if you do what they are telling you, you will only find shallow targets, I have a silver coin test garden and if set my f-70 at 50% it want find the 8" dime let along the 9" or the 10".
I think the reason you see a lot of f-70's for sell is because people follow the above advise and they can't find much, the f-70 is a very good detector BUT you have to learn how to use it, if you have EMI problems research my post's and you will learn how to help it tremendously.

Stryker hunting old home sites usually has much iron. So take it slow and easy. Maybe you will have to turn the sens down and use a smaller coil? Good luck..
Cache Man thank you for the info on deep silver settings. Haven't tried the +6 to +9 Thres and 99 Sens settings. Very good to know and thank you for sharing. Thanks for reading and Happy Trails....Z

Cache man thanks for the tips I will research it and Z I will take my time and I am also taking the F-2 for back buck since I know how it runs I am going to scan once with both , I have the 6.5 elip coil for the 70 I planned on using that . Thanks again for all the tips guys Stryker 47
