New Fisher F70 Owner! Advice Needed!!!!

ohp800max

New member
Hey guys,

Bought the F70 with 11DD coil and looking for advice, recommendations, and what to expect.

I do a little bit of everything as far as hunting, with a main emphasis on old home sites and ghost towns. I've got moderate experience detecting and I'm looking for advice on handling F70. Any recommendations on settings for a newbie to get experience with the machine, etc.

I've read through tons of posts on the F70, so looks like a lot of the learning has to do with controlling the power of the F70. Any and all advice welcomed!!!!

Turn it on and go. if you are looking for old deep coins then you will need to turn the sense up to at least 90 and the threshold (gain) to +5 if you are in iron then 6 on the disc. to pin point with a DD coil pinpoint your target rotate your body and coil 90* then pinpoint again then retrieve your target. leave the coil on the ground as you rotate. now use your detector set on the factory settings for a few days until you get use to it and you get the pinpointing perfected. on top of the DD coil their is a small circle this is your pinpointing center, if you are coin hunting set your tones on 3h or 4h on these settings the high tone will be silver. HH:detecting:

I am a firm believer to always hunt in factory settings for a little while to get use to the machine.
Another do some air test because if you stack objects they come up different than you would think they would. This happens on all detectors I tried. Old saying "dig everything"

I have steped up to the LTD, but love the F70. I found old coins for sure at cellar site and on several old church greens Ive been lucky enought to have permission for.. You can crank it but i wouldnt at first. Get used to it as you have to do with any newer model machine you havent used yet. Throw some coins down, get a feel for the different sounds, the pinpointing etc. Im sure right away you'll find lots of coins. I never tinkered with the threashold much, I think i kept mine around 2. Also Im reading where some folks hunt full time in SL, I never hunted with it on full time, that would be brutal in my book. I would "consult it" when I had a deep, promising target- putting it into SL would really give me a clearer sound and better ID. I was getting stuff like 6, 8, and 10 inches or more. I found a a lot of rings and jewelry also, as well as silver coins (barbers, quarters, mercs etc) along with older large cents, civil war tokens and such. In my opinion it is a good machine. CO
