I found the following posted on the Garrett forum.
"The new det. proto has a different approch to disc. I hunt in zero when I get a reading I turn the disc up until it stops reading, if it never stops its iron. By noting where it eliminates the target you can tell what its made of. This approch worked very well in Italy hunting Roman coins. Remember this is still a proto."
Sounds like the same method used in the HH PI.

Bravo! Good find Jeff. I like how that sounds from a technical standpoint. Would be interesting if you could roughly calibrate the knob for differant sizes of gold, hmm.

You are correct. The Beachscan, Goldquest SS, Headhunter PI, CScope CS7 & CS6, all can do the same thing.
Nothing new there.

No, it was Terry Crenshaw who first tried this idea and found that it worked to a useful degree.
