I think you may be confused, Kimber. Why do you think the item you saw is the new Pro-Pointer?
Garrett's security division sells a wand type item that sounds like what you're describing. Not a metal detecting tool, it's a handheld body scanner that's made to be used by security personnel at airports, sporting events, etc.
Our resident Garrett Guru is the one most likely to know for sure.

Is this it? It's a search wand. A pinpointer that big is not a good idea.
