NEW GTI 1500 USER FINDS AND QUESTIONS

TRIPLE-SSS

Well-known member
Well, just received my new GTI 1500 and went out a couple days ago and had a pretty good day. I went out to a couple places where I've been before with my BH Quick Draw 11, at the beach. I did manage to find targets that I missed with my BH.
Finds; ( 7 hard hours of searching)
14 QUARTERS
19 DIMES
9 NICKLES
53 PENNIES
1 BUFFALO HEAD NECKLACE ( could not read date)
1 KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION RING (never seen one before)
1 L SHAPE EAR RING WITH 5 DIAMONDS (fake)
2 POWER WHHELS CARS
6 SINKERS
51 PULL TABS
MISC. TRASH ITEMS

I,ve been detecting for about 6 months and have really learned alot about this hobby. I can really tell the difference using this detector over my other one, the overall quality is so much better. I am a little confused about some of the functions and have some questions. I did read the manual and watched the video that I got but still a little bit confused.
Question # 1 When using my treasure imaging pinpoint mode the target appears to be coin size. After I dig the hole, all of a sudden , it changes to a much larger object, and registers to much deeper depth. Is that normal for this detector?
Question # 2 What exactly does the Threshhold mode do? When using my head phones for the very first time, I got this loud humming sound and lowered the Threshhold to stop that annoying sound. What's this function for?
Question # 3 Can you accept and reject multiple targets or just on at a time?

I really do like my new GTI 1500, and in time will learn to understand and comprehand everything it's telling me.On the way there , your valuable feedback would be very much appreciated.
Thanks and Happy Hunting.
Stan.

Hi Stan.
You have a very effective detector in your hands. I took a bit of time to warm to mine, but glad I did.
To answer your questions, Q1) It is really important to properly centre your target when pinpointing, because when it's off you the results that you just experienced. There are a few ways of getting an accurate pinpoint and the simplest way is to simply raise your coil an inch or so after you think that you have the target centred. Also use the shallowest depth reading to confirm that you have the coil centred. It takes a bit of time to master it, but good results will come.
Q2). I can't give you a proper answer on that one, but I can tell you of it's effects. It has a lot to do with getting the best depth out of the detector. For optimum depth eta, you need to adjust the threshold so that you can just hear it. It is an important adjustment. Having it silent will cost you depth. I don't know why it is, so hopefully someone with a better understanding of detectors can explain that one to you as well as any other benefits.
Q3). Yes you can knock out as many targets as you want, that is why the notch type of discriminators are so handy. There is a cost to doing this though. The more targets that you knock out, the more the detector's performance in recovery speed is effected. If they are particular targets that just irritate you, then that is the perfect time to engage the reject button.
Have fun with your new toy.

Stan.

I'm a little curious about an answer myself. Anyone?

Centering the target correctly when pinpointing is absolutely crucial with a GTI to get accurate readings. Always move the coil off the target, press pinpoint, then move back over the target and pinpoint it. Threshold establishes the audio for pinpointing and all metal. You can run it at a faint hum or off, whatever youchoose. I always run a faint hum so I know my detector is on and working.
