New here and Exp. ll

Hello Everyone,
I am new to the forum and you have lots of good information here. I am not new to MD having had a Garrett for my first machine many years ago and then bought a Fisher CZ. However I lent to someone when I stopped detecting about 5 years ago and never got it back. That gives me an excuse to upgrade again to a better machine. I have been interested in the minelabs ever since I started in this hobby but just could not afford one. Well that has changed and I see that the Explorer ll is still a favorite with many on this site. I live on the NJ coast so I will be doing some beach hunting but had found myself hunting more parks and upland sites when I stopped detecting years ago. So I can get a Exp ll for $600 Is that too steep for this machine? I can afford a newer machine but dont know if I should right now. Could sell the Exp. ll later for the etrack if I truly like the minelabs. Any opinions? BTW you guys are great with good info and mostly to the point.

if its super clean and like Bryce said 1050 coil--not slim coil, with sunray probe X-1 600$ and headphones is ok very much , but if its a bit used and slim coil and no sunray X-1 or any other pinpointer and headphones, 500- 550$ is more right. but anyway very good detector you need just more few things, garrett pinpointer, koss ur 20 or 30 and posibly koss ur 10,kossur 29,headphones they have the same dynamiks like ur 20-ur30, but not 100% sure, you can get them for 15$-30$ and they are one of the best for quality sound on explorer. and better aluminium arm support for detector stability made by Jeff Herke good luck.

You might get into it and find you dont need the Etrac just a larger coil. Who knows.... by the time you are ready to up grade there may be something different out there. Im hoping Garretts AT pro motivates others to think outside the box. $600 may be a tad high for the basic machine IF it doesnt have the standard coil... but you will make that up in old coins. Just take your time and learn it... dont sell it until its paid for its self. Sounds like you are in a good location for this machine...look forward to you posting some oldies.

it's a buyers market right now...so $550 is more in line as long as it does not have the slimline coil. That is the #1 factor in determining it's worth right off the bat. Make sure it comes with the stock 1050 as I already stated earlier. If you can find one equipped with the Sunray probe...and it's a clean machine...then $650 is not out of line. Good luck

Thanks for the replies, it comes with a 5" and 14" coil, ross headh\phones car charger and two battery packs a rechargeable and the regular battery pack. Dont know if the coil is slimline or not.

neither would be the slimline coil. They're also not either one a stock sized 1050 coil. If that 5" coil is the Sunray X-5...then it is worth about $100 by itself. The 5" Excelerator coil is a good one too...but doesn't bring as much.

[size=large]every brand has it's experts and they have written a book or two. the explorer's is andy sabisch. he's written a book for the explorer and e-trac. it's highly recommended you get a copy./size]
