New Issue (for me) with X-Terra-70

For the first time in almost three years I ran into a problem with my X-Terra-70. I went for a short hunt this morning and for the first time my battery's went dead while in the field. I went to the truck and replaced the battery's. I then attempted to shut the battery door and it would not lock in place. I made sure the battery's were in right and again attempted to shut the battery door. I simply would not stay in place. Nothing appears to be broken and I checked the hinge area and the is no obstruction to prevent the door from closing. I have noticed in the past when taking the very tight weather cover off when replacing battery's the door sometimes comes open. In fact it happened this time. I attempted to replace the cover hoping it would hold the battery door shut so that I could continue hunting. That didn't work thus my hunt for the day was ended. If I had a roll of tape with me I guess I could have taped the battery door shut, however I didn't. Has anyone else run into this problem and does any one have a solution. Thanks TomB

New Post. I attempted to edit my first post and it would not let me. Upon closer inspection I found the problem. The battery door has a latch and the head has a receiver. When the door is closed the and the latch of the batter door is pushed into the receiver the pressure from the battery's keeps it closed. I discover that the receiver was broken part way from the head thus preventing the door from locking in place. I applied a small amount of superglue to this area and pushed the receiver back into place. I then taped the receiver in place to give the glue time to set. I'm hoping that it will resolve the problem. I'm open for any other solution's or suggestions. Thanks TomB

Seems like I read some place that there can be small differences in the size of some brands of batteries. I only use energizers or copper tops so I can't really say about the rest.
Could this have caused your problem?

This has happen to me with several of my digital cameras. Thank goodness it hasn't happen to the Xterra. I guess even though you think your careful one little slip when closing the lid can weaken and break that little latch that catches to hold the battery cover down. The digital cameras basically go into the garbage. If it was the XTerra I would do what ever it takes to fix it. I really wish manufactures could spend the extra nickle and make those peices out of some kind of metal or at least redesign so once the latch break your not screwed.

Thanks Tuco...It seems to be working. I don't know how long it will last. I'm trying to figure out how I can use a set screw in battery door. MXT it's not a battery problem it's a poor latch design.

I posted about it last year. The repair I made is still holding strong with no more issues.
