New Location... My New Project.....

Got out today to scout a new location. The site is an old camp for disadvantaged boys, opening in 1903, and operating until about the 1960's. It is estimated that about 150,000 boys attended this camp during that time. It's a large site, and all the structures are long gone. My first attempt was to check the only clearing. It may have been where the ball fields were, but this area was full of small pieces of concrete containing wire to reinforce it. Needless to say, this area produced nothing but a few large pieces of copper. A little exploration of the surrounding woods brought me to some old trees where i started hitting coin targets. about 1 1/2 hours hunting brought me the finds below. 8 wheaties, the oldest being 1918 and the majority from the 40's, most between 3-5 inches. The ground was not terribly kind to them. No silver though :( Surely some of these kids had to have some silver. I am sure some hunting has taken place at this location in the past, but it is off the beaten path. Hopefully it still holds some silver.

One of so many exceptional areas you researched to hunt that has promise. Your problem is, it is so grown up you can not swing a coil anywhere. Been there and done that! What to do? It's still to thick to hunt even in the dead of winter! There is no doubt there are great coins in there. Tree saplings, high weeds and bushes infest the area. A weed whip would have difficulity reaching the soil. It HURTS!!! HH.

Got to love those huge sites that yeild finds and they could be just about anywhere. Have you tried to locate an old Picture of this Camp?, since it shouldn't be too hard to find one if it was still in use in the 60's. I think you are going to be spending a lot of time at this spot once the Silver starts to come to light once again. Good Luck and HH.

If your getting old wheats then it's only a matter of time till the silver shows up. I think the photo idea is a good one, maybe the library or historical society or museum may have something. A swimming hole could be there also. I love the possibilities at a site like this. Good luck and keep us updated Crash

I sure wish I could clear out that brush.... Oh what a difference it would make! I definitely will try to seek out some photos, but time has been short. I only located this site in the last week. I was able to get the GPS coordinates of where the buildings all stood. I was torn between locating all the buildings today and trying to hunt. It's definitely going to take some time. The whole site ended up being over 150 acres. There is even a pond that they used as a swimming hole. Gotta get myself an Excal soon. Theres gotta be silver in that lake too....
