New machines

Are all pulse machines built to the same basic design I ask because companies such as Whites have had the Surfmaster in production for over ten years.
If there are improvments to be made in design would a company with all the resources not have made them.

Hi George,
The principle of operation is the same for all PI machines, but there are big differences between different models and different manufacturers. These differences relate to how the TX signal is generated and how the return signal is processed.
For large detector companies, such as Whites, a PI unit is only a very small part of its total detector business, so most of the development effort is channeled into induction balance detectors which have a wider market.
There are several small detector companies, and individuals, who have progressed way beyond the Surfmaster technology. Having said that, the Surfmaster still does a good job at what it was designed to do, and it has been upgraded more recently to the Pro version.
Eric.
