G'day to you all

First of- Great Forum and thanks to all who contribute to it.:clapping:

Obviously, I come from Down-Under and I have only last season started this hobby ( which is turning out to be a bloody obsession  )

Living here in Australia, it seems that there are some different modifications needed to metal detectors then in the rest of the world

Here, I was told that the ML's are the best machines to purchase for the more serious Prospector in Australia because of the highly mineralized ground.
Apparently being a proven manufacturer, and since I was interested only in finding gold (nuggets) - I purchased ( upon numerous recommendations ) a GPX 4000. I still own it and it has served me so far-quite well.

Even with my limited experiance i soon realized, that there are just certain situations where even the GPX 4000 not worked- today I know some was operators fault- but other times I knew -I just cant detect here or there. So what do you do? Well the most obvious thing as for most is....to wait for the GPX 4500.. then the 5000 etc..etc.. Frankly, I probably won't live long enough to see them improve to the extend that I would like----

However, because I dont believe that there is just one particular metal detector out there that will do the job for me and do it well enough, and sometime things you dont expect...tend to happen....I am now also the new owner of what I believe to be a GS 5c. The reason I am not sure is - I have not seen the mashine as jet and can only tell you this:

-I was told it is the same as the GS 5c but instead of having a GB dial type knob - it has only got an GB ON/OFF switch.

Can someone tell me what model this then is?

If it is an earlier make of GS 5c ( Eric, I understand that you did change that at some-point.) - can that be converted or changed easily ( to be exactly like the newest GS 5c) to have the dial type knob?
And if so, how much would I need to pay for something like that ( and who could do it??)

Since I have not heard anything during my travels about Eric's machine -I also would like to know "How many of the GS 5's are approximately in use in Australia- as far as I can tell there dont seem to be many - and that might explain the lack of info. ( not to mention my lack of knowledge)

I occasionally come across someone, who tells me that someone is building one for that person specifically- but no names and or models are usually mentioned.

So if there are any of you who might shed some light on this I would really appriciate the help, and if there are some "Aussie's" out there that have a GS 5 or similar please let me know- i'd really like to make contact.

To tell you the truth, I can't wait to get the thing and give it a good long once-over......

PS: I dont know if my decision to purchase this GS 5 was a good one- I really hope it will help in areas where I just cant work the ML. ( hint- I could do with some encouragement-LoL)

Thanks again to all of you- good luck, and good health
Cheers Jim

Hi Jim,

Only Eric knows for sure just what model you have, but regardless, if you have a GS 5 it has the ground balance control. The switch you mention turns off the ground balance so it can be used as a straight PI. So, the control you are wanting is there if what you are buying is the GS 5, regardless of the version.. The 5C eliminated the on/off switch and added a vernier GB control for a little finer adjustment. Also, there was a few other changes the enhanced the depth capabilities.

It is my understanding, the 5C has a different pc board also, so converting your unit completely will not be an easy task. However, even without the latest changes, I think you will find the GS 5 will work in places the ML will not.

Hopefully, Eric will notice your post and follow up.

So, keep us posted when you get the unit.

Reg

Hi Reg

Thanks for that- I did get a bit more info on my unit both from Eric & John the person who currently has it. It is my understanding that with a couple of new mods that are being done (Thanks Eric, for helping out :super: here we say- u're a legend mate!) , the unit when it is finally done- is as up to date as "can be" for Australia :clapping:

Reg, thanks for following up on the post-
there is one thing I would like to get my hands on though earlier if possible, that is the " Manual ( Australian Version,if there is such a thing) "

Perhaps there is a link somewhere, or perhaps Eric could email me one- - not all that important- just would be nice to have one at hand.

Thanks again to all, good hunting every-one and keep up the good work-

Cheers

Jim
:ausflag:

Ps: I'll keep you posted!

Oh, before I forget- apparently, I will also get a custom :coiltec: coil made especially for the GS 5-can't wait to try the whole kit! :detecting:
