Hi, just to sign on for the first time. I'm new to metal detecting so I may be asking some stupid questions from time to time. My wife is getting me one for our 41st Anv. June 12(hopefully earlier )

I showed her the Garrett Scorpion Gold Stinger Metal Detectors

Anybody every used one of these and if so how did you like them.............

Welcome Boo! Hope you find a home here. For those 'New' to metal detecting, there's a resource you may find interesting. The website was designed specifically for those new to the sport. Here's the link: River City Treasure Club I know what it was like trying to find good information, when I started in the hobby. There's a lot of good people on Find's Treasure Forum that will help you as well. Enjoy!

Welcome to the forum. Lots of great people here. I use a minelab x-terra 70 and have had a bounty hunter and minelab x-terra 50. All brands make a good one . Just get one and be patient and learn it really good and you will find the goodies.

What type of detecting do you plan to do? We can better advise you this way.

God bless

Mike

I have only used Minelab x-terras. Getting ready to try out a 50 in the Gulf Shores area. Let us know what you decide on and make sure and post pics of your goodies!

Welcome Boo! Hope you enjoy our forum and glad to have you posting with us! No detecting question is stupid as we all had to learn at one time or the other! Many on here have detected for a long, long time and have experience to help you with any question you need answered! May God Bless you with a new detector soon and to find lots of nice goodies! Amen! Just remember to recover all holes and take the dug trash with you and that way you will be welcomed into the parks and other places and keep the :detecting: hobby going without being shut-out of places because of uncovered holes and trash left beside them! I used to pick up most all trash above and below ground the best I could....keeps the areas clean for children to play without getting cut or hurt from glass and sharp objects! Ma Betty

41 years WOW that is a long time.

There are some guys in the Garrett Scorpion Forum who use those detectors to very good results, for coins and jewelry. See John from Edmonton's posts (all of them) I believe some folks even use them for finding Gold nuggets.

What type of hunting are you going to be doing? There may be a great difference in performance based on what part of the country you are in and what your desired targets and the type of hunting you will be doing. Relics, old coins at old home sites, nugget hunting, parks for modern clad and jewelry, beach for jewelry and coins, shallow water and wading and diving are some of your choices. You probably know all of this already, a lot of folks research a ton before making a decision on which machine to spend a little or a lot on. I knew what I would spend my time doing most and bought a machine not real well suited for my area and intended target/hunting style. This will also help us to help you in the best strategies that have worked for us. I recommend working with a local dealer in your area, he is out to make a profit, but for a new Treasure Hunter may be a great resource for gear and strategies in your area. All IMHO.

I run a Minelab Xterra 705 and Explorer SE and a Garrett AT Pro, so I will be of little help for the Scorpion.

Good Luck
Jeff
