New Quattro

Well, I got my new Quattro Friday night! I took it out Saturday to try it out and was TOTALLY frustrated!!! Sounded like a Pre-Columbian Peruvian symphony!! Hey, my MXT just goes "Beep"!!

I spent most of the night reading Sabisch's book, and gave it another try this morning. Now I'm impressed!!! I got the pinpointing thing down pretty good, can tolerate all the "music", and found a few relics. I went to an old site I call my "Secret Spot". No coins today, but I did find the usual old bullets, lipstick cases, copper "whazzits", a little "Fireman" placard (probably from the SP Railroad) and a Grover Cleveland token! Sooooo....I guess I'll keep the Quattro.

Too bad they don't supply backhoes as accessories.

Sounds like your catching on quick. One of the most important things I've noticed with the Quattro is sweep speed, slow right down to a crawl and you'll really start to nail those deep ones 10+ inches. The slower you go the better it locks on. + all metal mode is great for picking up coins next to junk. Good luck keep us posted on your progress.

Right on Gila!!!!!:thebird:Congratulations, and welcome to the "Quatro symphony of sounds". Your not the first one to talk about that on the forum, me included. That one's still ridin' my (you know what) at times, but I know we can sort it out as time goes along. The one thing that helped me a lot, is when your in a really trashy area, use a smaller coil if you have one, or maybe try the faster recovery setting, but your in the club now. Sounds like it's already starting to smooth out for you. I'm impressed because it took me a couple of weeks, (freaking out over all the sounds) before I setteled down and started to comprehend what's going on. Well I'm really happy for you and I honestly hope you end up being happy with your choice. This "bad daddy" does go deep, so bring your big shovel. Happy hunting, and talk at you later. That's pretty interesting what you said about the all metal mode. I have to admit that I'm probably still swinging it too fast in the trashier areas, especially when I get a lot of spurious sounds that don't seem to make sense. All that could just be too many targets close together, coming at it from the wrong angle, and/or going too fast. I'm starting to believe that the "real men and women" are detecting in all metal mode and listening and watching the numbers and making decisions that way. Well I'm still in the "rookie" mode, only just starting to mess with the all metal mode, but.....,,,,, One other thing, that I just read about all metal mode by Charles Garrett. He says that you should be able to go deeper too, in the all metal mode. Hmmmmm. What do you guys think? Maybe so, and even though it's a lot more hassell to listen to all the signals, if you guys are getting a little better separation, (maybe more depth) and the fact that your "hearing everything", and "then" making a decision. This is starting to look like a real option to more thorough hunting. Marc.

Yep, in trashy ground a slow sweep of the coil is in order. Different if you are beach detecting, and there's not a lot of trash. Most of the fishing beaches are walk beaches too, so not a lot of trash, heaps of sinkers and coins to get, and the occasional ring at low tide. But where people picnic and congregate, there's a myriad of pulltabs and other rubbish, so the slower sweep is good here too.
I think our ground differs a bit to some of yours over there. Seems you have this red clay to contend with, we have iron ore or heavy mineralized places over here, even at the beach. It's a bit like running the detector of sheets of metal. Enough to almost drive you insane!
