I received it last Friday from another forum member in his 70's, who bought it last October, but because of age and a bad shoulder, only used it about an hour then put it back in the box and put it away, until I bought it. I have a Sovereign GT that I love, but last time I went to use it, it didn't come on at all, even trying both battery packs, so it needs to be sent in for repair. I frequently detect the beaches of S. Calif. and was using my White's duel field since the GT didn't work, but the problem is everybody and their brother is on these beaches with a detector, and while they are passing up the fish hooks, hair pins, and frequently zinc pennies with their metered vlf machines, and covering a lot of ground, I'm stuck in a much smaller space digging all the things they left, so when I saw this fbs Safari with a meter I decided to give it a try while getting my GT repaired. (I still haven't sent it in yet)

I tried it Sunday and Monday in the wet at the local beaches, not worrying about what I found, just getting used to the different sounds and the meter. The only thing I found, besides coins and a little junk, was what at first I thought was a silver dollar, but ended up just being a trade coin from the tourism company of Puerto Rico, good for $1. at their casinos dated 1987. So far I think I'm going to like this machine.

Just go slow and watch your sensitivity level. Some areas you may be able to run pretty much full blast, others you may have to back if off. It still goes plenty deep and runs stable as long as the sensitivity is adjusted accordingly.

Super unit for wet, salt beaches. I don't meter watch and almost strictly tone hunt with it and the silver tone on the Safari is a no brainer. Any time you hear a higher pitch tone when sweeping, even if it's subtle or super quick, stop and investigate.

I have a Sov GT and Safari and love em both.

I'm a lot like ifoundapenny in the post above this. Reading the various forums, people with detectors that were new to them are usually told to use factory settings until a person gets the feel of that machine and it's sounds. I just used coin and jewelry with auto sensitivity. Next Sun. and Mon. I'm going to use relic mode, and the next 2 days I will use all metal. Hopefully after that I will be ready to tweak the machine a little.

I'm extremely hard of hearing so I can't just depend on sounds. Yes I can hear the difference between a can tab and a coin, but my lack of hearing won't pick up the difference in sounds between a quarter, dime, penny, etc, that's why a meter is helpful to me. What I was thinking of doing when there are other people detecting the beach, is to completely ignore the coin sounds and just dig the mid tones, hoping for gold. The other people will be slowed down digging those coins (mostly zinc pennies), and I will have a better chance to cover more ground and find something good.

I took the Safari to its first trip to a park yesterday evening , and as has been said by others, there's a lot of various sounds that drove me crazy at first, but because of reading other posts about that, I was semi ready. The question is why does it do that? I have done the exact same area with a Garrett Ace 250, White's m6 and a Fisher cz-70 pro and those machines were completely quiet, except when I got a signal. I was using coin and jewelry mode with all factory settings and auto sensitivity, and I noise canceled before I started. Despite doing this same section of park with those 3 other detectors, I was digging numerous coins with the Safari, all down deeper than any I had dug before, so I know I'm going to love this machine.

Yep and just wait until you really understand the sounds. Every time I go out now it seems as if I am starting to pick even more up.
