Been messin around with it for a while just lookin at it and runnin different coins and such under the coil to hear the sounds. Wow!!!!!!:wacko: This thing is a whole lot different than the DFX or X70. Gonna take some getting used to, thats for sure!! I will be hunting an old homesite tomorrow, this will be the first time out with this machine. How would you advanced users suggest I go about using this machine. Something basic, I want to learn the machine and not get in over my head to start out. I will read the manual and go thru the menu a few times to try and get an idea where things are located but I can see it may get overwhelming if I go to tweakin stuff so I will just ease into it at first and leave the advanced stuff alone for, say, a year:biggrin:.

Thank you

Hi Old Sox;
I would suggest "factory presets;" adjust the threshold down until it drops off ~ then up a notch until it's just audible.

I would tend to select coins mode ~ as this will handle most of your junk iron, nails etc.

You will still hear all your coppers, bronze coins and silver coins, plus any brass things, lead toy soldiers, plus toy cars .

You'll find it interesting also to change screens from "Smart" to "Digital" on various targets...

This is just for starters, we are all a little "wobbly" when we first turned our Explorers on.

I remember my first target I heard on my old Explorer XS...

I straightened up and thought "WHOA" ~ what was that???
Sounded like Scottish bagpipes being strangled !!!

SNOWY is correct. Use the factory presets and dont tweak anything except THRESHOLD until you get used to the flutes, oboes, saxaphones etc.:nopity: There is a definate learning curve with the SE but once you have mastered it you will love it.
