New SE Pro

Member
Hey Guys, I`m new to the forum and have so enjoyed reading all the informative posts. I have new SE Pro coming in this week and I know that the learning curve is going to be daunting. That being said, The info I`ve gleaned here is, I think, going to shorten that curve. I know I will have many questions to ask after I begin hunting with it this weekend, but I promise to try and find any questions I have if already posted. Wish we had the forums in the 80`s when i was active with my old Garret. maybe I would have kept at it. I`ve had the old Garret out recently and just things I have read here have made using the machine more fruitful. I have a feeling that the Se is going to give me permanent case of detecting fever. HH to all

The SE will produce well for you, take your time with it and you won't be disappointed. I purchased mine in the fall of 2009, one particular place that I hunted for a little over a year once a week or so has produced about 160 silver coins, a gold ring, hundreds of wheats and several sterling jewelry pieces. I was told when I started at the site that it was hunted out! The SE is very good in trash and is a very deep seeking detector.

Happy hunting! John

Thanks, John. This going to FUN ! Did it take long for you to change the factory settings after you started using it?

Hi Randy......No it didn't take long to go away from the factory setting. I used Andy Sabicsh's book on the SE PRO quite a bit as a guide. I may have misspelled his last name. Also I had a lot of experience with the Mine-lab Sovereign XS detector which has some similarities.

Yes, I have the book on the way. Very anxious to get my hands on this detector !

i got my se last fall about two months time on it now found it easy to learn lots of great finds already andys book and the post found here all help and still do as i learn eash time out just waiting for the deep snow to go enough to get back out its a hard wait going cabin fever nuts

Thank God for Texas weather, of course it does get too hot and sometimes too dry to hunt. :)

[size=large]i've had mine since dec.2010 and constantly reading andy's book. an awful lot of what he says is transferable to any machine. so he's even helped me get better with my whites xlt. and there's been more than enough help from the forums.
if you are getting an explorer or e-trac you'll really do yourself a favour by finding and downloading the emulaor for your machine. there's past but somewhat recent post on where and how to get it. it's free and very helpful. helped me get past the fear i had of pushing the wrong button and screwing things up. i know you can reset
the machine but i still was worried about changing things out on the hunt. not anymore. you just have a real good time hunting.

Ok, , I got it and the full us coin zip , this is gonna be way cool !

[size=large]start playing with the emulator now and you'll know more than most did when their machines arrived.

If you havent down loaded it go to thebeepgoeson dot com website, he has the emulator he also has a ZIP file for the coins you will need to down load and put in the emulator file to upgrade it. You can change the language file to english.

I got it it`s GREAT ! wish there were more zips for it ~ got all I could . really going to help me when it arrives....

Did you get it off the BEEPS website? He has a more complete file of US coins. I was going to see if i could make some but just havent had the time and i dont think i have the program on this computer for the graphs he used. He does instructions on how to MAKE those zip files. I was more interested in using it for relics since there doesnt seem to be any files available.

yeah got it off beeps..the coins and jewlery..works great at least the french file has some junk too !

Randy you should do some study on the smaller coils for your detector. Bryce has field test posted at the head of this forum. The small coils work very good in iron and other metallic trash infested soils....It would be great if you had someone close you could hunt with for awhile....

John

Oh I`m sure I will end up with a smaller coil soon. I do wish there was someone close , but at the same time, there is much less competion for the sites . A sort of a trade off. :) It`s not that they have`n t been hunted, but I don`t think anyone has been hunting with minelabs. Ive been using a 5 inch coil on my old detector for years and love em, but I mostly try to hit older home sites. It`s where i`ve always had the best luck, even after hunting them time and again....

[size=large]there in lys the big reason for making your signature. you put what area you're from and those around you will contact you for day hunts.
don't forget to check the little box that says to add to every post. then it's automatic. also when you say its hotter than hades here or colder'n a witchs heart here others will know where here is.
