New SE Pro

New member
After eight years of using the XS, I have decided to be dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century and I bought an SE Pro from Richard at Backwoods Detectors last week. Although I wasn't always the most consistent hunter, I usually got out at least once a week to the beaches of the older homes and parks in NE Mass. and have been satisfied with what I have found in my limited outings using the XS and a Sun Ray probe. I am now looking forward to taking a giant step in terms of technology. While I am waiting for the SE, my most immediate search is for Andy Sabich's book so I can learn my new machine as well as I can before the snow melts and the warmer weather returns. Wish me luck. I'm pretty excited about this!

Richard is a great guy. I enjoy talking to him from time to time. You will love your new machine. :super:

Big tip.
Don't take much notice of the readings that you get when in pinpoint mode as they will quite often go to 31-31 or top left on the screen when the item is solid brass and then you get no reading when you check the hole.

On the other hand, I personally find the ID information which is available in pinpoint mode on the SE (and not on the earlier generation of Explorers) to be a terrific feature. I really like this feature of the SE Pro's pinpoint mode. Yes, when iron exists in conjunction with the good target, the pinpoint will sometimes "lock on" to the iron (and thus give 31-31 ID) -- but this tendency to lock onto iron when in all-metal/poinpoint mode is typical of ALL machines. Meanwhile, I find the availability of ID in pinpoint mode to be quite helpful at times...

You will love the new machine, and it should feel very familiar to you, having swung the XS...

Good luck!

Hey Sandyman!

I live on the Cape but lived in Fall River for almost 40 years. I've been using an XS, with tremendous success I might add, for close to 10 years. Definitely thinking of adding an SE Pro and probably will at some point this year. Had lots of luck in those FR parks- like to retry them with an SE Pro and SEF coil and see what I missed...

Good luck with it - post your finds so it can force me to get one that much sooner!

Jeff

Thanks for the encouragement, Gents! Now, as soon as the snow gets off the ground, I will be in business! Reading Andy's book now.
