New season - New detector owners

Elton

New member
First and foremost help the new people if your given the opportunity. Digging skills will need to be addressed for sure.

That said.. If your new and want to buy a detector.

#1. Local dealers are best.. You can hold, look at, and learn the operation of the detectors
#2. Know what your going to be hunting for. Not all detectors are equal. Yes they all detect.. "but say a gold detector", with a higher frequency will not be great for coin detecting.
#3. Check out prices.. Their all pretty close but good deals can be found.
#4. See if a club is in your area.

#5 that should be #1.. Ask questions on this forum. We have awesome people here who will help answer your questions.
#6. Review and make your own decision about what to buy.. No one here can really tell you..Your area, type of detecting, and how much you want to spend is in the end UP to you.

The only dumb question............. The one you don't ask.

Elton, great post, but if you don't mind, I would like to add one important thing for all detectorists to follow. Learn to dig responsibly and pick up all trash. If we all don't follow these rules, we will not have any place to practice this great hobby.

Also don't use shovels in parks and open area's like the clowns on Youtube. We have lost most are spots were I live to carless greedy silver counters!
