I heard from a guy that pre-tested the Omega 8500. He said it was a great machine, but he could not do a YouTube video on it till it is released.

There are two kinds of testers - normally.
Experienced users who agree to help receive pre-production units and do engineering field testing. One gentleman told me that he received a new machine every couple of weeks as field testing feedback helped the engineering team make final "tweaks" to the design.
Other users and persons who are likely to yield valuable marketing information receive pre-release units for marketing testing. These testers are at some point "released" from thir non disclosure obligations to publicize their experiences. If they have nothing good to say, I suspect that they say nothing. To assume that they lie about their results however is to judge them too harshly in my opinion.

I have a copy of one of the detecting magazines from a year or two ago where a tester wrote an article describing how to write a review. The guy very candidly admitted that negatives were downplayed and positives were puffed up, if the tester knew where his bread was buttered.
Instead of saying "Maximum depth is only four inches," the author said the reviewer turns this into a positive statement: "It identifies targets up to four inches deep with great precision!" The author said it was up to readers to "read between the lines" and decode this kind of jargon because reviewers couldn't come out and speak bluntly.
Probably not all reviewers do this kind of thing but I thought it was a pretty amazing acknowledgement that reviews and reviewers can be twisted. And straight from the horse's mouth.

Well, there's not much to worry about on that front in the future - ask anybody under 30 about a magazine - their answer - "what's a magazine?"
The opinion that counts now is on Facebook, Youtube and for a slightly older crowd, Internet Forums.
On these media, your credibility is constantly evaluated and challenged. Folks who blow smoke are pretty quickly identified and then ignored.

-----When is the Omega 8500 going to be released for sale?----Is it going to be after distributor/dealers clear their shelves of (marked down) 8000's?-----If that's the case, it seems it may be a while yet.CoinHunter2

You hit the nail on the head, with your statement.
I needed to upgrade this spring and when the rumors of the 8500 started I thought about waiting but when i heard it could be late Sept. I didn't want to wait that long so I bought a 8000 (washed the car).
I'm liking the 8000 so far and can't see getting the 8500 in the near future. If they wait too long to release the 8500 more people are going to purchase other detectors like the 8000 or re-released T2 at the
reduced prices.

The 8000 it being replaced by the 8500 so the cheap 8000 option won't be around long.

Different strokes for different folks..LOL Plus most machines function very differently in different ground areas... I took a favorite detector South on vacation.. I hated it in that ground condition.. was like a different detector.
