New Sovereign?

I have one Tony, Havent had it outside yet as our weather just wont cooperate since I got it. I hope our ground will thaw in a couple of weeks so I can use it.
The big andantages are those that like to hunt in all metal now have a auto tracking called "Accu-trak" that can be tracking as you go, or GB and locked. For us coin hunters that like to use the disc we have a switch for silent search so we can turn it on or off and we also can turn the iron mask off or on in disc. This is all mounted on a new straight shaft that is like the GP 3000 and retails for $799 and come with the rechargeable battery, but no meter now. Minelab is working on a new meter that will have the 180 number, but our old SunRays and the rescaled Minelab meters will work on them too.
David had a quick feild test on it and looks real good and this one looks like it may work for Prospecting too with the "Accu-Trak" in the all metal mode.

I have a Minelab Muskateer Advantage also besides my Explorer. Anyway, you talk about the Sov.'s all metal mode.
My Musky, with a 5" coil in all metal can hit my deepest coins in my coin garden that none of my other detectors can hit with larger coils or any coils for that matter. I just wonder if the Sov. will go deeper?
Do you know if there are 17 different frequencies going out of your Sov. in all metal?
Also, I've heard that it takes quite a long time to reset from one target to the next at least with the older Sov's. Is this still the case with the newest model?
Yea, I read David's field test. That's what inspired me to ask about it some more.
Tony

went out to an old camp that has been really heavily hunted by me recently with an explorer, troy x5, and a nauty. It has been heavily hunted for 20 years. took the new machine out with larger coil only. It worked really stable in all metal mode. Switched to silent search and descrim. found about 6 spencer cart. and one flattened minnie from firing. One thing I will say is that it is very sens. to small pieces of brass, lead etc. you almost need a probe to find all the little pieces. Found part of a button back at about 6 inches with just the center shank and about 1/4 to 1/2 inch of the back. It has been a long time since I had a bbs machine, but It appeared to respond quicker than my original. If it does this well with the larger coil, the smaller 8" might be a great small jewelry killer on the beach. Only have 5 hours on it, will give more details as I can.

Tony,
As far as depth goes it all depends on what else is in the ground. I find in some of the trashy area my 5 inch coil will go deeper than the stock coil on my Explorer the same as the 8 inch coinsearch goes deeper than the 10 inch BBS on my Sovereigns too. The reason is it is seeing to much trash and nulling out a good signal, this is why we use these small coils for seperation.
The 17 differnt freq BBS is in the disc mode and not used in the all metal mode and this is why the new GT has a auto trak or lock ground balance in all metal and it is disabled in the disc mode.
The Musky is a great detector and it is sensitivie too, but I feel for coinhunting the Sovereign will out perform it and get the deeper coins and leave the trash, now for relic hunting I feel they will be about the same from what i have used the Advantage.
With the Sovereign including the new GT and the Elite a null in disc will be anything that is disc out plus most all iron as they hate iron, so we run little or no disc and go by the tones. Now with these nulls you will have to go slower to get a coin next to iron. With the Advantage I found you could go faster as it dont have to anlize each target as much, but would get more nails or cover up a good coin signal more than the Sovereign would. I wouldnt call it slow to reset, but check each target out more and give you the info so you decide if you want to dig or not.
Like I say the Advantage is a great detector and for the money it may be the best, but from my use the Sovereign can pick out the good from the bad better and get more depth too, but you have to go slower so it can check each and every target out. Like the Explorer it has a learning curve, but not as steep and now with the all metal "Accu-Trak" of the GT it will work better for those that like to hunt in all metal in mineralized ground and can even be used for prospecting.

I cant get out with mine yet because of the snow and frozen ground, but like to hear that it is doing good and that it may be better than the other Sovereign, gives us the bought them a little more confidence we made the right choice.
I do notice on my air test it has a more distincted signal then my Elite does, but thought maybe it was just the speaker was differnt.
Nice to hear of your quick little feild test and hope to see you post more when you get out with it again.

Rick,
One thing I will say about the Advantage, using a normal sweep speed it will give a very good first response on non-ferrous targets in iron. Some of them when pinpointed you have to use the tightest wiggle possible or they sound like they are breaking up on the edges and thats at low disc settings. But like I said that first initial hit stops you in your tracks! Comparing the Advantage to the Sov is not a fair comparison IMO. For those times that I do not want tone ID and prefer to dig all non-ferrous targets (older sites where iron is the main trash item), the Advantage has the quick response and seperation that is superior to ANY machine I have used. It also has superior depth on coins near iron than any other machine I have used. I can't get over how deep this things sees coins in iron trash!
Just like with the Sov or CZ or any other machine, a little familiarity will have you leaving most nails in the ground where they belong too. I dig very few rusty nails and it did not take long to understand the language either. Would I use the Advantage in a nice park setting? No, but if I were hunting the fringe areas of well known pounded sites I certainly would.

I have been posting them for about a month. Look for past threads with Sovereign GT. Good machine, David @ Dixie

David, yes, I know. I've read your excellent reports on it. Very well written. It got my curiosity up, hence my questions here. Good job!
