New T2 user

Hi from West Sussex. I picked up a T2 from Laura at D#%@&ks earlier this week and plan to use it tomorrow for the first time. I will of course trawl through the Forum posts for tips, but could someone please recommend some basic settings for a first time user. I use Sunray Pro Gold phones. I will be searching stubble and possibly plough land in West Sussex. Thanks guys! :)

i run in the 2 tone mode, run the disc at 21 or less, and sens at around 80, welcome to the T-2, you will love it

Thanks thompy! I'm sure I will love the T2 once I'm used to it. It was a bit of a nightmare on fresh stubble yesterday and the pinpointing was very difficult.

Regards,

Chris

To help with the pinpointing I painted the manufacturing separation spot on the top of the coil with some white paint. It's a little circle in the middle of the coil. It appears to be the sweet spot for pin pointing.

Beng in the U.K. you want to use discrim. no higher than 10. I stick at 9.
2+ is good if you want tones. I do better with 1 tone and use it or all metal mode most of the time.

Pinpointing should be no trouble, though its to sensitive without being adjusted. I don't know if you have Toddy's book on the T2. If so ignore the pinpoint section. He suggests reducing sensitivity in all metal. This ignores the fact Pinpoint has its own sensitivity adjustment that is independant of both Discrim. and all metal modes.
All you have to do is pull the trigger to pinpoint and continue to hold it whilst turning the "settings" knob. Clockwise increases sensitivity, you need to go the other way. Release trigger and the setting is held (but only until the detector is turned off). It does say this in the instruction book but people either skip the section or think they are still using an XLT.

I think Toddy says he's never had a non ferrous target below 47 on the meter. Some one else said 45. I've had good items that have I.D.'d lower. Lowest was at 37 so don't take it as carved in stone that lower numbers can be safely ignored. I dig numbers down to 36/37 on any new site until I'm certain that the ground minerals haven't depressed the meter readings.

Thought you were a Minelab fan ? I prefer the T2 to the X Terra's and its even started to take over from my two XP's. Just wish they had put a few cents more into the build quality.
Best of luck. Hope the rain holds off for you.

That's really useful advice. Thanks so much. I'll try that at Wantage tomorrow if I use the T2. I still miss my XLT, but I do like the X-Terra 70. I may go for the new E-Trac but not until I hear a few more reports on it. Thanks again. Chris
