New T2

After using my SE and Etrac for a while I decided to let go of the Etrac, keep the SE and try and find a machine that will do a little better at finding some Civil War relics. I am hoping that my new T2 will be the one to do it. I took it out yesterday for a little while and tried it out. Man, this thing is going to take some getting used to to say the least. With the SE sounds burned into my mind, the new sounds of the T2 are a bit challenging. I tried Disc mode and switched it back and forth to AM mode playing around with it. I sure like the AM of the SE a lot better right now as I just dont like the sounds that is has in all metal. My ground balanced around 58-61 and I started with the sensitivity around 80 or so. It seemed that the sounds were a bit choppy and short compared to what I am used to but the pinpointing was pretty much dead on. I found a few pennies, a quarter, lotsssssssss of foil pieces, and a very small, thin aluminum disc at about 7" that absolutely rang my ears off. It seems sensitive to small stuff. Can someone help me with a simple program to use when searching for relics? I sure want this machine to work out and I have been reading that it is supposed to be a good relic machine. I like the weight of the machine but the feel is a little bit off to me, I guess I am just used to the Explorer. I guess I could just use all of the help that I can get right now!!
The ID of the T2 was dead on, when it said it was foil it was foil, and boy did I dig enough of it. Overall, I am still a little worried about the switch but I hope that you fellas can give me a bit of a boost.

I am fairly new to the T 2 as well, but having a F 75 made the transition easy. You are doing the right thing by digging a lot of everything. The T 2 id's down to good depths very well. For relics I am either in a/m or disc. 21, 1 tone and sen. as high as possible. Usually at least 85 and often in the 90's. My ground is very similar to your's. Keep using the T 2, once you get used to it, you won't put it down. Good luck and HH, jim tn

Thanks Jim. I took it out for a little bit today and it opened my eyes up a little bit. I can see that I may really like this machine! Found some stuff in places thick with junk, places I have crawled thru with my other machines. I went through it at a comfortable pace while constantly getting good signals. Used 3 tones and Disc set at around 28 or so(dont know why I set it there, just where it ended up). I cant wait to get it to a campsite to see if it will pull some good stuff out. I am kind of getting used to the sounds and starting to like it!

On those trashy spots the T 2 really does excell. Glad it is growing on you. A few more hours and you will be hooked good.LOL Good luck, HH jim tn

Ex-Sox, once you get used to it the T2 is a superb detector. I mostly relic hunt here in Northern Virginia. the soil is mostly clay and some ferrous and a lot of times the places I hunt are trashy. Over time I have settled on two setting options. In all-metal mode I usually run the Sens around 75-80 and the Hum is either at 0 or -1. The soil around here usually ground balances between 68-79. If the soil is relatively "clean"---not much trash--I usually run in all metal mode all of the time. When there is trash or a lot of iron in the ground I stay in discriminate mode and then I switch back and forth between two starting settings. One setting group I use a Sens of 80, Disc of 41 and the tone I leave at 1. The other setting group I use is a Sens of 80-85, Disc of 10 and the 2+ tone. I use the second set more often than the first, with these settings you get different tones for different metals and it is especially useful when there is a possibility that a good target will be close to a trashy one. The T2 is great at separation and when the target is good, like a CW bullet, or a button or a coin, the tone will be higher and cleaner so you know to dig the signal. Iron comes in at a low "blatting" sound. The first setting group is great to use when you have clean ground and want to focus on just avoiding the iron. Of course if you are relic hunting you probably want the iron signals so I would use the second setting group.

Ultimately time and your getting familiar with your T2 will get you settled into the setting you are most comfortable with, but if you want to try the settings I am suggesting, it is one way fro yo to get familiar.

Good luck, you will love your T2 once you get used to it. I hope my suggestions are useful to you. Mark

Thanks Mark I appreciate your input!! I can tell that this machine is going to be fun to use. I will use your settings next time out.
