new to 705

my primary goal is to be looking for lost jewelry with a high frequency coil at parks(sandy and dirt) ,playgrounds, any tips on settings?coin or prospecting mode? what numbers to look for etc. thanks

Take a look at the eBook, Understanding your X-TERRA", and the TreasureTalk blog post "Ever wonder what you're missing", parts one and two. And, there is a coin chart of TID numbers listed in there as well. You should have no problems learning your 705..its a great MD...trial and error will give you the most info,persistence is a plus..HH bob.oz

Until you get a chance to "STUDY" not just read Randy's ebook, do your noise cancel and ground balance and only discriminate out iron. If you're jewelry hunting you can't discriminate anything else or you are going to miss small gold jewelry.

The 705 is an excellent detector !! I ran mine in discrimination mode with nothing discriminated out. I ran my sensitivity as high as I could and keep the detector fairly stable. I used the 5X10 HF DD and the 6 inch HF DD and they are both very sensitive to small objects. The 705 was my favorite detector that I have had along with the Explorer. In order to find the gold in parks you will have to dig a lot of tabs and junk targets because gold can show up just about anywhere above iron and below copper penny's. I have moved on the the E-trac that will be arriving tomorrow.

i have read those and were very informed. i was wondering if anything else out there available on the web

Being a low conductor, gold will show up in the same ranges as a lot of junk, so be prepared to haul small mountains to the recyclers.
Ignore negative numbers. Most gold jewlery will register above 0.
Look for IDs in the 2-16 range, but even up to mid 30's.
Since much jewlery has multiple facetts or reflective surfaces, IDs can be jumpy.
Depth will also play a roll in the ID displayed. You just about have to dig anything that you can confirm is actually there.

You can also try air testing examples of items that you hope to find, and note the values and characteristics that they convey.
