:?::?: Hi, where do you get help beyond the video that came with the detector? I understand most of it all, except I can't pinpoint what my machine indicates. I press the pinpoint button, but it sounds a lot, so that I can't tell where I'm supposed to dig. So I dig and find nothing. Does anyone give lessons??

<center> not that you need to join but sounds like your new to the fun :) so maybe someone close could help with some pointers.
Not just pinpointing but also places to go and methods to use for the area :D

I don't know the Prism III, but I'll give you a couple generic pinpointing tips.

1) Take a dime and slide it around on the bottom of the coil until you find the exact location where it pinpoints. Mark that spot on the top of the coil or memorize where it is relative to the sticker on the coil.

THAT is your pinpoint target spot. A line straight down through that point wil hit or be very close to the target.

2) Bury a coin 3" or 4" deep. Try to pinpoint it. When you think you are over the coin, hold the coil still and note that the machine is slowly tuning it out. The target keeps seeming smaller as this "autotune" progresses. Eventually it will dissappear.

You can use the autotune function to help zero in on the target. It is easier to do it than to describe it! Hold over target, wiggle coil a little bit to zero in, repeat... and so on.

If the prism has a all-metal "retune" switch, you can push it while over the target and it will do the same thing.

3) If the target is really big and loud, raise the coil a few inches above the ground and see if you can make sense of it. A can at two inches sound pretty darn big.

Hope these tips help. This will all become second nature after a few times out.

Good luck and feel free to ask any questions on this friendly board.

I am in upstate NY too, in the mid Hudson Valley (Dutchess County). I am going to try the tips you have given me. I am hoping to get the hang of this detector.
