Good morning everyone. I have been lurking around for the past few weeks reading about the F75. I ordered one and should be in today. I am like a kid waiting for Santa but in this case its UPS. lol. A big thanks to everyone that has posted their tips and ideas as to how to get the most out of this detector. If anyone has any really good starter tips with this machine I am all ears. I hunt mostly parks and schools but will be headed to Wisconsin to check out the lake that drained out last weekend with a group of guys from here. BTW even though I am from Texas I am working in Northwest Indiana, so if anyone here has a F75 and is located in the NWI area, let me know. Thanks again. TMAN...
 
I took mine out for the first time today. Used factory presets. It's different, for sure.:surprised:

Found some clads but nothing old or deep. I'm not sure what a deep coin signal should sound like.:shrug: I really like the quick and sharp tones.
I was able to figure out the difference in the sound of a bottlecap and pulltabs ID real good.

Start in Discriminate, DE Process, 4 tones that also include nickels and do not notch out anything.
Set disc to about 7, and sens. to around 80. Do a fast grab GB.Sweep as described in the
user's guide. If you have extreme spreads in the i.d., its probably iron.
Pinpointing is right under the sweet spot. If you find multiple targets together with a good signal
included, try to pinpoint it and, although not recommended in the user's guide, use short brisk sweeps;
that aside you may just have to dig to get the trash out of the way.
Its the simplest detector on the market.:fisher::detecting:

I was having a hard time pinpointing. Seems like the volume is constant. In other words, it didn't seem to get louder, the closer it got to the sweet spot. (I'm guessing that the sweet spot is under the small circle on top of the coil?)

I used the factory presets which put me in kind of a silent search. Does that sound right?
I didn't notice much falsing, if any at all. My other machine is a Sovereign GT. Have had Sovereigns off and on since the late 90's and nothing else.
 
Thanks Vlad for the info. I didnt set mine up that way so thats why I didnt find anything but a penny. LOL. Tomorrow is a new day. There are a few things that I would like to say about the first outing though.
This machine is the most balanced machine I have ever swung. I used the ace, cortez, and xlt and balance of this machine is outstanding.
The controls are easy easy easy.
Pinpointing was spot on. Of all the targets I dug (LOTS OF PULLTABS!!!) I missed one by an inch to one side.
The depth while was pinpointing was spot on as well. If it said 5 inches, it was 5 inches.
The machine was hot on pull tabs. I dug many from 30-45. I am sure it will find gold if its there.

When I set it up, I set the discrim too high. I set it at 25 to cut out the crap and it seemed to be very unstable. I turned the sens down to 25 and it quited down but was still very difficult to get a good signal. I am sure its because the discrim was to high.
The only thing I noticed that was odd overall was the volume. I had it turned all the way up and turned up the volume on my headset and it was still alot more quiet than any other detector I have used. Is that common?

As far as coins, do they sound off as good as pulltabs? I would get a short beep at 70-85 one way and nothing the opposite way and no bars on the confidence meter. Would those be real targets or does the confidence meter need to somewhat coincide?

Lastly, Vlad, you say not to notch anything out. Is that to just learn the tones or does notching affect the depth etc of the machine.

If you are hitting tabs at 30, then nickel will probably read 28-29.
Don't notch because you have the meter & tones; also a notched out piece of trash can
hide a good target. Generally good one way & no signal the other is iron, however you might
"X" the target to see if iron might be masking a good target.
 
Thanks Vlad, I will try the sens above 30 and the disc around 6 to see what happens today when I take it out. Hopefully it will run a little quieter or I find a place with less trash. TMAN...
 
I read a few post yesterday and took alot of the advice I read and appied it in the field. It paid off. I reset the machine to factory settings and ground balanced. It ran quiet like i like it. I hunted a park I go to regularly. I was focusing on coins as I had only found 1 the day before. I seached an area that I hadnt hit before and of course got a lot of tab signals but no coins. I had a few signals at 70 or above that bounced from 70-80. I figured they were crap and when I dug they were metal crap. I didnt give up and got a hit at 70/71 that was constant. Dug a penny at a true 7 inches. I ended up with 2 canadian cents, 4 memorials, 1 dime and 1 quarter. Definitely a better day than before and I am starting to gain confidence in the machine. TMAN...
 
Sounds good TMAN. I had a pretty good day yesterday too. Went for a short hunt at a new to me park that is loaded with pulltabs and bottlecaps. I managed to pick a few dollars in clad from between the junk and was having a good time until the hunt got cut short by rain.

Hey BB, how were the signals stacking up against the trash. Were they repeatable side to side? What kinda depth were they found at. I have noticed 3 things with my digs. The depth meter in pinpoint has been right on and it seems the deeper the coin the more accurate the pin point is. The other thing is I get a lot of signals at 70 or above but they arent repeatable from one direction or the other and they usually are jumpy. Any info is always appreciated. TMAN...
 
you are doing the right thing...digging all kinds of signals and learning what the F75 is saying. More then just a couple of vdi number variations is usually trash of sorts if you have pinpointed accurately. Good luck! HH jim tn
