NEW TO FORUM: QUESTION FOR EXCAL USERS

JEAN IN MIAMI

New member
Hello All,

I'm glad to now be part of the best Treasure Site on the web! Recently, some of you excal guys have been discussing optimal excal discrimination settings. The concensus seemed to be that a setting of 8-11 was best. My problem is that I use the older excal that lacks a number discrimination dial. So, if any of you excal users could post a picture of where 8-11 on the older excal's dial is, I would greatly appreciate it. If a picture is not possible, maybe you can just inform me where to set the dial if I have it turned fully to the left on Auto. Thanks very much! Keep posting the great finds.

Jean i cannot answer your question as I do not have excal but was wondering what the beach looks like down there. I am 1.5 hours north and thought about coming to check the area out in the future. I hope someone gives you the answer you are looking for.

hey jean
welcome to the forum...
i have an excalibur2 so as i understand this the older ones the dials are reversed...so disc 1 and sens 8 are good starting points..if you put sens at pointing noon which would be looking at controls youll have it then work it from that point..im sure there will be others that just might post a pic for you in awhile..
but good luck
see you on the beach..

Disc wise, fully left, ie none only iron, sens is depending on the beach but a 12 o'clock starting point is ok then move either way

THANKS FOR ALL OF THE GREAT SUGGESTIONS AND ADVICE!!! I TOOK IT TO HEART LAST NIGHT, BUT UNFORTUNATELY, MY HUNTING PARTNER WALKED AWAY WITH THE GOODS. I DID NOTICE A FEW MORE ENCRUSTED QUARTERS AND GREEN NICKELS THAN USUAL, SO I'M SURE THE CHANGE IN SETTINGS WAS EFFECTIVE. AND MAX, IF YOU'RE READING THIS, THANKS FOR THE GREAT PHOTO, AND BY THE WAY, I LOANED MY BUDDY MY ORIGINAL "NEW YORK HEATER' FOR A FEW WEEKS--AND OF COURSE HE PULLED THE ORO. THOSE ORIGINAL EXCALS ARE THE BOMB.

Jean I am in Stuart-Jensen Beach area and wanted to come down to the Miami Beaches. I am new to sport and area really what is a decent place to go down there. I do not want secret spots just a general area i could start in.
Thanks

Hello Briley,

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I certainly don't mind giving you advice on where to hunt in Miami Beach. My buddy Joe and I have been hunting Miami Beach hardcore now for about eleven years, so we've got a pretty good handle on it. I don't think there are any secret spots left down here any more, so don't worry about that!! It's just a matter of being lucky enough to find a hole before someone else does. There is a lot of competition down here, but during the winter, most guys eschew the water for the wet sand. So if you are planning to get in the water, you are more likely to find a good spot than if you hunt the summer days. AND YOU CANNOT GO WRONG IF YOU HUNT SOUTHBEACH ANY DAY OF THE WEEK ANY TIME OF THE YEAR. Southbeach is fairly sanded in right now, so you might want to mill around until you get into the goods. Start at third or fifth street and work your way up. Start your hunt two hours before the low, and hunt till at least two hours after it. South beach can change a lot between the tides; you will be amazed. The goods just start magically showing up as the tide lowers and rises. If you are fairly new to hunting, you should work the trough first until you get the hang of it. Wet sand is also good.

So basically just come on down and park anywhere between 23rd and first(Lummus Park area) and hunt your heart out. South beach sees so much beach traffic every day, that it's probably your best bet to get into something. But the truth is anywhere along Miami Beach is good. Let me know if I can help you with anything else.

Regards,

Jean

Thanks Jean one day I may surprise you and show up at the beach there. The beached here are worked to death and I spent 5-6 hrs on today and turned up one token ring and three pennies and tons of debris. Just to look somewhere different would be nice. I have not been doing this but about three weeks and have three token rings and nothing worth keeping to speak of. That will change as i am going daily and will learn just got to pay my dues like everyone else. I was gone to eat and just returned and I appologize for the delay bback also.
When you hunt there do you hunt edges or water for best results? If you do not want to post my e-mail is hwadkins@autodamageappraisers.net I am Hank by the way.
any assistance is appreciated. I know we have some negative tides for the next couple of nights and was wondering how they will work out in my area any suggestions on negative tides being better than usual? We have some troughs here but they are so sandy at the moment I tried one the other day and got rocked with waves and the soft sand made it almost impossible to stay upright. I felt I was missing something in the method of just walking up the trough because of the waves and lack of knowledge.
Thank you for the response though and since I retired two months ago this is a workout-hobby for me to get healthy.

Jean heading your way today may see you around the beach As i wrongly posted on another south Ga red neck loose in Miami
