Hello all. Well after years of procrastination and now motivation by my son (10 yrs old), I'm jumping in. Question... I've been reading the forums and reviews... seems like everyone has a favorite. But I like ease of use combined with quality at reasonable cost.
We live in Texas (Houston) and will probably hitting old house sites, barns, parkes, and the beach (occasionally). Mostly focused on coins and the like. Probably some high "trash" areas.
I'd like to spend in a range of $200 - $350 initially (maybe a bit more).
I have looked at eBay and the web and have seen the following brands and models out there. Anyone have a recommendation?
Garrett Ace 250
Garrett Predator II
Bounty Hunter Tracker IV
Titan 1000/2000 series (KelleyCo has 'em)
I'm not tied to those models so opinions are welcome. I'd love to own a White's detector but price seems out of my range. From my surfing it seems White's is great; and Garrett and Bounty Hunter get the best reviews in my price range.
Thanks in advance for replies and help

I read your message but none of those jumped out at me.
I suggest something with target id, that identifies coins for you.
And if you can an adjustable ground balance.
You might look for the models you want and then watch ebay or local ads or something.
I think you need to work on which detector first a little more. And then look for a used one. Look for cheapest model with target id and adjustable ground balance and then see ho used prices run.
Your cash may be a little low for a new one but used ones often sell low. Newsapaers perhaps. Wait till end and then call up with low ball offer and say its for you and your son to go digging w. Yard sales comin up!

either the Tesoro Cibola or Garrett Ace 250. Both are easy to use, good depth. The Tesoro Cibola has a lifetime guarantee, not sure what the guarantee is on the Garrett Ace 250. Both detectors are well built, well designed by leaders in the metal detecting industry, and should give you years of enjoyment. Please have a great day! Check out Western and Eastern detecting forum, great site also.

The new Garrett 250 sounds like it will be a winner for around $200 new. The others on your list are more toys and do work, but many get turned off the hobby with them. The Tesoro Cibola is a good one along with even the Tesoro Compadre. A used Whites IDX Pro also can be got in your price range but a used one. I see used Garrett GTAx 1000 once in a while too and they are older detector, but some of the best Garrett made.
If you have a local dealer it may be wise to pay him a visit and he can show you differnt ones and what would work the best for you and your area.
