Hi everyone, Just found this forum tonight and as I am a new owner of an Explorer SE I thought I would maybe get some insight as to how it works. I have been detecting for a couple of years now ,but gotten seriously bitten this year. Up until this past Sunday I have been using a Bounty Hunter Sharpshooter II and have had a fair amount of success. I can't wait to see what this baby can do once I figure out what it is telling me. It is a talkative little rascal. I plan on going back over all the spots I have detected at to see what I missed. My best coin find to date is a 1785 Spanish 2 reale silver. I hope to find more now.

Welcome to the forum nidan98. Get ready to start digging deep with that new detector of yours. Take your time and go slow--and read all the great posts on this forum for some really good information. I know your going to have a blast finding some great coins! Good luck and happy hunting!

Nice to hear from you and WELCOME.!

As to tips we can give you............

1. Start out in The factory settings for coins until you get really get used to the unit. Other settings at this time will just confuse you. Get a good sense of what the machine does first.

2 .Make your first effort all about learning the sounds and what they are telling you. Scatter a hand full of coins in the backyard and get a sense of what coins make what sounds.

3.Go Slow! The Explorer series is an excellent detector but takes a tad of time to process what its detecting in the ground, but gives you much more info than other detectors.

4. Dig it! Every time a target is dug, that tells you a little about the sound and reading and how the Explorer "talks" after a short time you will not have to dig trash targets because you will recognise them.

5. ASK! The guys on this forum will do two things, answer any question with a wealth of knowledge and kid you at he same time. So for the best support you just have to put up with old farts like us!

I guess if you were able to dig a Spanish Real with A Bounty Hunter you know what your doing. I thought the Bounty Hunter was only good for finding cannon balls.

You should, indeed, go back over those spots. You'll be amazed at what you left behind. Like the others have said...go slow, it's more like dragging the coil back and forth in front of you than swinging it. When you're ready to venture away from the factory settings don't be afraid to experiment until you find settings that work for you. The Explorer is extremely versatile in the amount of ways it can be set up and what works for some folks may not work for others.

Looking forward to seeing your first finds with your new baby,
Steve in PA

Hey John..... im still learning i guess because im still digging trash... LOTS of trash haha. The TID is good to a point with this machine... but to dig the deeper coins you really need to learn to hunt by tone and you have to get out there and hunt. You wont learn this machine by using it once a month. If you hunt where there is silver... you are going to get your share. Try finding a hunting buddy with an SE, it will shorten the learning curve.

This is a good place to pick up on things. I found the website a few weeks ago and have enjoyed all the different posts. Seems like everyone is friendly. Have fun with your new detector.

Thanks for all the great tips. I can already tell this is an amazing machine and I'm going to love it once I learn it.That little Bounty Hunter really owes me nothing,I also found a 14k gold ring with a little over a 1/2 carat diamond. Not too bad for a tinker toy:lol:
