New to XP Deus

I am learning to use the XP Deus. I was out the other day and the Deus picked up a target but when I put it in pinpoint mode the pinpointer did not sound off. If I pressed my coil to the ground I could get a signal sometimes. When I dug, I could not find anything. This happened to me several times. Sometimes my pinpointer would sound off but I could find nothing in the hole. Any suggestions would help.

Thanks,

In my experience the disappearing target is usually in the sidewall of the hole.

if the coil is close to the target and you press the pinpoint it will null out. the coil has to be away from the target. also, if i have the coil away from the target it is sometimes over another target that also nulls out the pinpointing. bury a coin in the yard and practice. it can be hard to get used to and i still have problems with it especially in heavy trash.keep at it. GL&HH

Thanks, I will try your suggestions. I think I pressed my pinpointer button over the target and got nothing and then I moved my detector around but still got nothing. Also, got hits but when I dug could not find anything even using my Garrett pinpointer. I am thinking that maybe the target was deeper. But I don't know. Could not get any sounds out of the Garrett pinpointer even though at times the Deus sounded. However, saying that, I just found out that the way the horse shoe on the left is filled a lot or barely tells how deep a target is. So, I am sure most of this is operator error and I need practice.

I practiced in my yard over targets and did okay. But this park had real thick grass and that is where I encountered those problems. I just never had my Deus not sound off when I got a hit and pressed the pinpointer mode. I will try keeping my Deus away from the target before I press the pinpointer button. Maybe that will help.

I think the Deus is a great detector but I am having problems understanding it. So, thanks all for your help. I am a bit technically compromised so need all the help I can get. Will go through the book tonight.

Thanks,

Some pointers and info.

Like it's been said,,,engage while over clean ground,,,if you try to do over target,,,detector will not be tuned properly,,hence you may not hear target.

Also,,try to X your target when sweeping,,,sometimes if in and around iron and nails,,this may be hard(ear) to do.
Use this location to dig.

On deeper targets,,as you take off dirt,,,target may disappear especially when sweeping in hunt mode (disc mode).

If you get confused,,try to resweep target hole,,from different angles,,you might tilt your coil, slightly,,doing this,,may reflect which side of hole target my be in and dig accordingly to find.

Usually when retrieving a target,,,a good sign to see,,,,is when the target disappears after digging,,,,this I feel is best thing to happen,,,shows you are probably on the right trail.. Be persistent,,,,I know this may sound hard,,,but when you get more confidence with your detector,,,you will find,,,it most times is not lying to you--- hence find your find.
Can be tricky at times,,,and more time consuming than other times. I guarantee some folks have give up and left good finds in the ground.

Good luck

Sounds like it could have been a hot rock. What did it read on the meter? If you ground balance your Deus, make sure you balance "slightly" positive as this will help eliminate most hot rocks.

I honestly do not think I have ever used the pinpoint button on mine. I wiggle back and when the tone drops off its always right in front of the coil. As I wiggle back I just progressively smaller wiggles
