For the most part, Brian has been doing real good. He has gained several pounds back since starting the feedings via his g-tube and his energy levels are up as well. He started back to school Wednesday going half days only. He has done well and we hope he'll be able to start back full time in a couple of weeks.
Yesterday evening he started working out on a recumbent exercise bike that was graciously loaned to us by one of my co-workers. Thanks Steve!! He pedaled 1.5 miles and burned off almost half a calorie!! This morning when he woke up he hopped on the bike first thing and pedaled another 1.5 miles. The goal is 10 miles a day.
Unfortunately, the pain in his face seems to be increasing as the tumor growth has been relentless. The tumors on both sides of his jaw are making it difficult for him to open his mouth wide enough to eat so he is limited to taking liquids by mouth. This has been very depressing for him because he is longing to eat his favorite foods. He has a gift card to Texas Roadhouse waiting on him (Thanks Mark) and he can't wait to put it to use!
The pain is excruciating when he yawns and makes it very hard for him to sleep. In addition, the tumors inside his mouth have grown so much he said he gags when he swallows water. He needs to drink at least 32 ounces of water per day but he's been nursing one bottle for 3 days now.
We are going to call Vanderbilt Monday to schedule a visit to his plastic surgeon. They wanted to wait at least 6 monthes before performing another tumor reduction but I don't see how we can wait that long.
Thank you for all of your thoughts, prayers and support!!!
