New x-terra 705

I got a new x-terra 705 a week or so ago but the snow and frozen ground have kept me from using it. I laid out some coins and junk on the drive way just to try it out and hear the sounds. That was on factory preset. Not much of a test but when thats all you got, to kill time until the ground conditions improve. Im assuming that on a real hunt I would want to ground balance and turn up the sensitivity for optimum performance. Is that true? With out actually going out and playing with it, about all I can do is think about it. I guess Ill just ask. Hows the best way (what settings) to get started?

Yes when you detect with it you will want to noise cancel first and then ground balance and i turn sensitivity up until it barely starts to chatter then I back it of a number or two . Congratulations on your 705 and look forward to pictures of your finds.

Welcome to X-terra family. If you haven't, make sure you visit the FAQFAQ page. Tons of invaluable information.

Congrats on the new 705. My procedure is to turn it on, set the Auto Noise Cancel, set the volume to max, set the Threshold to a level that is just barely audible, set the Sensitivity to max and use AutoGB to set the GB while in the All Metal mode. (I use all metal so I can be sure I'm not trying to GB it over a piece of metal) After you get it ground balanced, if it doesn't run quietly, you may have to back off on the Sensitivity a few clicks. I can usually run mine in the upper 20's. But everyone's ground is different. HH Randy
