I dug this recently it is my first civil war belt plate. I know its a 1840 to 1850 new York belt plate but haven't been able to find out much about what they are worth. Any help would be great thanks.

Nice find. Can't help on the worth of it.
Great find! Don't know the exact value of these belt plates, but I know having something professionally restored can increase the value. I know of 2 people who do these types of restorations. One I believe is in Virginia and the other is in Waterloo ,Alabama. P.M me if you interested in there contact info.

Nice plate! I have seen these in perfect dug condition go for as much as $250-350 your of coursr is not perfect.
