I must say I've learned a lot in just reading the posts! As a newbie (about 1/2 hour in a junk filled old barn yard) I haven't had time to even sort out what all the differing sounds are telling me...I think I need to go somewhere with a LOT less targets to differentiate what is what!!! One comment....I'd love to see more HOW TO or tips etc for people like me who barely know which end of the machine to sweep with!!! (not quite that bad...but you get my drift!)

it's a must have for Quattro owners. Now, go to the least trashiest site you can find and spend about 10-15 hours hunting that area until you start becoming familiar with the different tones of the machine.

Second, try getting yourself a 8" concentric coil, which is lighter, better in trash and a breeze to pinpoint with.

Good luck,
Mike

I bury what I am looking for and start trying to repeat the same sound around me. For instance I buried a wheat penny, about 6 inches down, I've located 3 others within 20 feet. Bury the coins,(I used a tip from another poster who said to really pack the soil an inch at a time......it works very well.) I have learned a lot, and I consider it for myself one of the most effective ways to learn the Quattro's sounds. I also noticed when my soil dries the wheats fade out but my silver seems to hit the same. I practice every day if I can and its paying off.
