News on USAF Pilot ring

scubadetector

New member
Got the final news today. William R. Hurt passed away May 6th 2001. He lived in Gaffney S.C. His widow still lives at the address and I left an phone message. I don't know if she will want it or if he had any children. I really wish I could have heard his story. But at least it is another ring owner found.

He flew B-25 bombers right after WW2 and I did find his best friend. They had lost contact in 1965.

and a great story! Congrats !

I just recieved a call from Pat Hurt his widow. He was not married to her when he was in the Air Force. He was married to a Jane Hurt. He had a son from his first marrige. William R. Hurt jr. He is retired from the USAF. He was a LT. Colonel. He will be getting the ring. Interesting that father and son were both in the Air Force and both had the same name.

Anyway, this ring is heading to South Carolina tomorrow. I will miss if from my collection, one of my most prized finds.

Sure is a beautiful ring, scubadetector, and I can see why it was one of your prized finds! Really a nice ring and I'm sure his son will be happy to get it and be proud of his father being in the Air Force too! That is probably why the son also became a pilot and followed in his dad's footsteps! Thanks for the nice pic and for the story, although a sad one which we hope will end up a happy one! :)

God Bless!
Betty
