Next day, silver of a different variety.

It was a little nippy when I hit the woods this morning, but within the first five minutes of cranking up the LTD I hit the big mini drop. That is the biggest mini I have dug from this site. Just a few minutes later I got the small ladies 925 ring, so with the mini and the silver ring, the hunt was already a success. Hunted along and got a couple of the 1 cent coins and the 3 Merry Widows container and was working along one side of a large down tree when I got a whopping high silver reading and was thinking maybe a silver half. Not to be, but was a pretty hefty 12.5 gram 925 men's ring. Not many coins for the hunt, but did get 3 wheat cents, a 29, 40 and 55d. Hope all are having a great weekend. HH jim tn

Nice job............... I like the rings too. I have never found a Merry Widow container. Nor seen one in real life.. Were those early 1900 , or what ???

jim is that some type of scenery in the big ring or am I seeing things? maybe its just dirty? Anyway those are neat rings!!

What ever kind of stone it is blade, the design is part of the stone. I think the ring itself is either Native American or Mexico silver. It is a little rough looking and feeling, almost a carved look. It's marked sterling with a M in front of sterling. Elton, there is not a lot of info on the 3 Merry Widows (condoms). I did find a site once that stated they were one of the earliest condom companies and the co was actually started by 3 widows, Agnes, Mabel and Beckie and in the early 1900's and possibly a bit earlier. I've got several of the better condition containers stashed away in one of my finds boxes and I know I have four different varieties and I'm thinking, maybe even, five. In my forty years of detecting, I had never found one either, until I started hunting these woodlands last winter. Thanks, HH jim tn

Jim, I assume this has been asked already and I missed it, and not that we need detail to find your location either. When you refer to "woods" i assume it is the same woods each time. Was that the site of an abandoned town, base or camp? Seems like it is almost an endless field of fairly good targets (i know you mentioned before it is a lot of climbing , tucking, etc so dont really mean field as in a big open space). Beside you good detecting skills, really whats makin that place so productive to begin with? CO

Super Job. You have been on fire lately ! :hot: CCH

osgood, no, nobody has actually asked about the location. When I find a giving spot, I hunt it hard and being retired, do hunt almost daily. The site has just seen many, many decades of activity and some area's probably had never had a coil swung over them. HH jim tn

wouldn't that beat all if ya found one with "used"
skins inside! get yourself a (d.n.a.) profile from the
late 1880's (lol!)

They come in as a mid tone with the occasional flick of high and id usually 63-66. You can usually tell them from a zinc cent by their size. HH jim tn

If the silver ring has a future at the scrap dealer I would be glad to pay you for it. I dont know if you ever sell any of your finds but I would love that ring for my collection. Idigid
