Nice Gold Specimen Found with White's TDI

Hi,

The first nugget I found at my mine at Moore Creek with the White's TDI weighed 1.93 ounces. I was pretty tickled by that, figuring I'd have bragging rights for awhile.

Well, I'd better give credit where due. Some friend of mine visited the mine in the fall. Bernie and Chris P from Soldotna, Alaska are both avid detectorists, having racked up many pounds of gold at Ganes Creek, Alaska over the years with the White's MXT.

But they were ready for something different. Chris in particular wanted to find some nice specimen gold. She can outhunt most guys but this was her first time using a PI detector. They hunted Ganes a week, and then came over to Moore Creek.

They both did well, but Chris outdid Bernie with this really nice 2.07 oz. gold/quartz specimen. And managed to beat my 1.93 oz. chunk in the process.

Steve,

Does a piece like that go off with a bang ,squeal, or what? I am still trying to learn my TDi, kinda hard in the winter months tho. And what do you recommend in the way of waterproof elliptical coils for the TDi? I can't hardly justify the price of those Coiltek coils. You had a whole bunch of coils shown on your website for Tdi and Minelab, now there are only a few? Also, what's your opinion on the new Garrett ProPointer vs the Detector Pro Pistol Pointer? I'd rather fool around with as few controls as possible and still get at least 2-3 inches of depth on a pinpointer.Sure wish there were more postings on TDi machines?
I was also wondering what would make my MXT screen go blank in Prospect Mode even tho it screamed over a fist size heavy black rock? The rock was NOT rusty at all but was about 10 inches deep and the size of my fist. Unfortunately, I didn't check it with a magnet and been kicking myself for chucking it. The ground was full of positive, but very liteweight hotrocks and reddish limestone bedrock and signs of mining in the area. Got any ideas?
Thanks,

Tom

Hi Tom,

Sound just depends on depth. No different than other targets. Nearly all gold at Moore Creek goes high tone.

Frankly, I think the White's smaller round 8" coil is a better underwater coil than the White's 5" x 10" elliptical coil. I gues if you have to have elliptical than there you go, but for underater use the 8" round is less bouyant. Both have an MSRP of $249.95 but can probably be had for less. If you go aftermarket, the Coiltek Platypus 8.5" x 11.5" Waterproof Mono Coil is a good choice, and it can be had for $230 on sale. So no more than the White's coils - it is really only the new Coiltek Goldstalker coils that are so expensive and they also are not waterproof. As a rule, any Coiltek open spoke (spider) coil is waterproof. I don't think any of the Nuggetfinder coils are waterproof but could be wrong on that.

I have more TDI compatible coils then ever listed on the AMDS website. I need to put a TDI specific page up.

No idea on the MXT. I've seen some hotrocks that do not give any VDI reading but none that make the screen go completely blank.
