[attachment 138912 100_1504.jpg][attachment 138912 100_1504.jpg]These must have been someones good luck coins, I found them in four inches of water two inches under the sand, in the California ocean. Does any one know where the penny is from and what it might be worth, Or a site that I can find out the info on coins. Thanks, Gene

Gudday Gene,
Just like LA said, English pennies. We get a few around here sometimes, usually around the old goldfields.
Sure looks in fine condition for that age, mine usually come outa the ground pretty scrappy.
HH and cheers

it's probably worth more to sell it in the USA. but in the UK it would probably end up in the scrap copper bin, it has quite heavy wear so would grade about fair. the old Penny's turn up in large numbers over here and collectors only really want EF or uncirculated examples. still nice to find in the US, a bit like when we dig common American coins over here

Thanks to all,

for your info and web sites. Just got me a new Excal II today with a 10 in. coil. Gave it about an hour this evening, got $1.30 and a junk bracelet. Going to hit it hard and heavy tomorrow. Thanks again everybody, Gene, Encinitas California.

Yes they are correct it is an old penny , it used to be 12 pennies to a shilling and 240 to the pound note , if you ever find a penny dated 1933 then your RICHHHHHHHHHHHHH it is said that only a few were ever minted and there are still some in circulation ?? .
Alas this coinage has now been replaced by the decimal pence = 100 pennies to the pound , so unless that year of penny is collectible you can coin a fraze and say that they are worth "
10 a penny " ( forgive the punnnnnnn )
happy hunting Tony
