Met up with the GUV this morning at the OLDEST park in town! Not very many signals left to sift through!
We both got lucky and hit on a few worth digging!
No Silver but still some nice old nickels!
Got a 1868 Shield
1883 V
1899 V
1902 V
and a 1899 Indian plus 3 wheats!
We are going to start up the ROAD trips to find more SILVER!!
I think we have DRAINED this poor town DRY! <img src="/metal/html/cry.gif" border=0 width=40 height=15 alt=":cry">

Just have to wait for some more Iron to ROT away!

I've always been impressed by the number of nickels you find, especially the shields. Keith(IN) posted the coins he found in the old fairgrounds field and they suggest that there should almost be a 2 to 1 indian head to nickel ratio. I suspect that the lack of modern trash at this site made it easy to dig anything that wasn't iron and not worry about trash. Not your normal situation.
I've gotten alot better a digging nickels but still have much to learn. It seems that they bounce around alot more than silver/copper depending on the ground and surrounding trash.
Awhile back you posted that nickels will often hit along a pattern that climbs as it hits more left. That helped alot. Any other suggestions?

If the conductive number is in the 04-08 range, and the ferrous is below 15, I dig. Depth creates more variance, but if it's in this range, good chance it's a nickel or shell or Cracker Jack toy.

The sound you get in pinpoint will be a solid ROUND HIT! The beaver tails kind of sound spread out not a solid crisp hit in pinpoint!
Other then that I do dig a LOT of beaver tails and little nick-nack type stuff all kind of fall in the same area!ALSO THE ONLY GOLD COIN I EVER FOUND! <img src="/metal/html/grin.gif" border=0 width=15 height=15 alt=":grin">
