no background noise

So I'm swinging, and there are signals and background noise on the safari. Then, silence for a few swings. In the silence sometimes I get strong signals. So what's the deal with the silence? Should I stop the swing with long silence and wait for the background noise to start up again or what? Had a good weekend, 1 41 merc, r 3x40's wheats, and one token. Token was 1920's copper-clad crank club toknen. Very good cond.

If you are using discrimination, that silence is when the coil is going over items that you have notched out. If you have a strong signal in between, swing from more than 1 direction to determine if it is iron or a good signal and then make up your mind if you want to dig it.

I don't like the constant hum of the threshold so I usually turn it down to 9 or lower until I don't hear it. Some people prefer to hear the hum. To each his own.
